Hi Everyone, i'm a newbe to KTM and just purchased my first 990 SD. it has a full service history and its a 2006 production with around 6000 miles on the clock.
im calling on SD veterans for some advice regading my new bike.

I rode it from the location i picked it up from and there was a couple of thing i noticed while riding it home. First off the engine was luke warm and it seemed like it was very easy to stall when getting into 1st( this could be due to the bike being stationary for a while) but i wonder if there is any type of sensor mulfuncioning that may affect this? once warm or i got used to the clutch was ok.

Secondly i noticed that there was a lot of clancking/metal slapping noise from the engine/drive train on low revs as if there was a lot of play between the piston in firing and the wheel receiving, so im thinking either the chain is loose (something yet to check but the teeth look good) or the DID chains are knacked, anyone experieced this or is it just me new to the bike. i didn't have this problem before as i rode an xv535 with a shaft drive.

Lastly is there anything i need to look out for while i got the bike in pieces getting it ready for drier weather?
any suggestion experiences are welcomed.
Nick

There are no real issues and the engines are pretty strong despite a bit of clang and bang.
Important is to let it warm up to 4 bars BEFORE taking of as suggested in the manual. There are several technical reasons for this and the engine runs like shit if cold.

Things to check are: Oil in water or water in oil, the waterpump shaft is to blame and goes on some bikes.
Clutch slave cylinder and clutch oil (not brake fluid on the SD but magura blood as it is called).
State of the front brakes as on some bikes they can jam mostly due to corrosion etc from dirt, salt....

And the usual things like service history, oil filter....

Hope this helps.

PS forgot to mention the chain needs a bit of slack, check the owners manual for how much and how to check

Thanks ktmguy, i noticed the brakes looked a bit rusty and sticking so im going to take them appart and clean them up. at the same time i notices that the brake fluid was black instead of honey colour. i have some dot4 from previous services as it states on the brake fluid cap but the manual is stating DOT5.1? should i go with the manual or the brake fuil cap?

Also any suggestion on make of oil for chain and engine?

I use putoline dot 4 in mine and it does a fab job.

Can't think of any other issues to mention on the 06 (which is my SD) other than if you don't ride it like you stole it she won't be a happy girl
