I have an 08 Duke, I noticed the smell of gas one day while riding it. Come to find out there was a manufactures defect in the gas tank that caused it to leak fuel onto the engine and frame. This ruined my VIN Sticker and KTM says they will not replace it... Anyone have any suggestions?

Just put my 08' SD in the shop for the same reason, leaking out of the tank/fuel pump base area.
Asked dealer to check on a replacement for damaged tag so some hard ass doesn't accuse me of adulterating MFG. information to conceal something or other. Said he'd check.
What was the cause of your leak? I suspect a fuel pump tank/base gasket or silicone made gasket gave up after sitting in dealer's shop for 4 years. When first finding leak, I saw pink colored residue around area of left side of fuel pump aluminium base. Didn't see any gaskets on fische, but for the fuel pump's pair.
Did you have any wiring damage?
Will be fixed under warranty.

Same on mine after the fuel pump base leak due to ETHANOL fuel left in the tank,,,made the hole for the fuel pump "oblong" shaped,,,took off the stickers on both sides of the frame,,,after replacing my tank I was told not to worry as there are numbers stamped into the frame up by the steering head,,,,,,,,
