I typically don't go beyond 110 or so miles between fills, but I'd like to know just how far it will go on a tank. I know the shape does not lend itself to using all the fuel. I did 115 miles today, and it took 3.5 gallons to top it back off. How much more fuel did I have before its done, another .5 to .75 gallons.
Thanks.

Did that, I promise. I know the tank is 15l (3.9g or so), but couldn't find anything about how empty you can really get it. I know I saw something on here at one point or another but I couldn't find it with search. I think maybe my search skills suck. With .4 of a gallon left at 115 miles, I guess I'll just consider that pretty dry.

You'll be luck to have much over 14ltrs of usable fuel in there. You'll certainly find it cuts out on heavy braking long before you get that low.

I get 100km till the fuel light flashes, no idea how far I can get without going dry but I guess about another 20km, I usually refill about 8 liters.
Does anyone know how much gasoline fits into the 07+ one ? I'm thinking about changing mine as it's the only thing I don't like on my SD.

If you are refilling after 8 lt that still gives you about 6 lt remaining, so plenty.
The 07 onwards has an 18 lt tank. Few guys here have managed the conversion.

Yep could be better. My 06 fuel light comes on about 130km which equates to about 10lts fuel used, so could probably get about another 50km out of it.
So relax a bit when the light comes on and enoy the ride.
Living in Switzerland how far are you really away from a servo?

The big 'gas' mystery for me is the way the low fuel light works.

Does anybody here know why the warning light stays on for ages after the tank is filled up?

I don't even know how they achieve this as it's usual a simple float or pressure switch but putting it to one side why on earth would you want that??

Once I even ran out, having not ridden the bike for a while I took it for a thrash. The light was on but I vaguely remembered filling up so thought I must still be in the waiting for it to go out period but apparently not. Clearly this makes me an idiot for not opening the lid and checking but I have often noted it as a curiosity.

After 80 miles I'm always looking for a fill up.
