08 SDR not throtling off

It's been getting progressively worse when down shifting. Last week it would only drop down to 3k after blipping on the down shift. Handed it over to the experts thus morning.
Will see what they come up with.

Mine does something similar but as soon as I touch the brake it drops to normal revs. Seems to be worse if I'm filtering through traffic, although as I don't go out for blasts anymore and most of my rides are into London it could just be that I spend so much time filtering.

BGC, TPS, clutch switch or TB rubbers - have had similar from faults with all these separately.

I give up . Bloody android.

Anyway the stepper motor was the issue and rather than cough up $1000 for new throttle bodies and stepper motor, the KTM advised the mechanic to remove the small rod that activates the butterflies.

Went to start it at the mechanics and no starter. Wait 5 minutes then all systems go. Stall and again no starter.
Gawd I have a love hate relationship with ktms. 40000 ks and its getting precious.

Starting issue must be throttle position sensor. New technique is to press starter and slowly open throttle.

Back to basics - first thing to try is reload your map, reset adapt and 15min reset - second, TPS setting with closed throttle should be 0.56 - 0.64V and circa 3.75V fully open, engine hot or cold - easily adjusted by loosening central locking screw and rotating TPS - third, if settings OK, clean, dewater, dry and dialectric grease BGC.

First and second need either TuneECU or your dealer hooking up to diagnostic tool.

I'm having this issue. Checked TPS, .64V. Reloaded new map. I'll see how it rides tomorrow. I hope that cleans it up. The previous map felt really muddy in weird spots and yes, throttle surge in traffic with no way to engine break is quite terrifying.

Forgot to reiterate checking TB rubbers also.

Turned the idle screw 360 clockwise and heard a marginal increase in idle revs. Also when ignition turned on the startup noises are back to normal ie they eventually stop where before it sounded like some electric motor just kept going.
Off to the mechanic for new tyres so will see if I can get the tps readings. Also found an electronics guru in town so might see if I can get him to look at the black boxes on the throttle bodies.

the surging is now near constant. Started the bike this morning, went to drive off, shifted into second. By the time I made it to the stop sign, it was surging to 3000. Stopped bike, shut it off, restarted and drove off. Same thing, within 2 gear changes, it was surging again.

I actually watched it at a stop light, start at idle, around 1450, and move to around 3800 RPM.

TPS, at rest is .64V, but I don't know what it is at WOT. I'll take a look at the stepper arms but is there anything else I should check? All plugs just got a healthy dose of dielectric grease (thank you amazon).

Check the seating/sealing and for splits in the throttle body rubbers.

^^^^^^^ as above! check for intake leaks/ good sealing.

At closed throttle and, map dependant up to a given throttle percentage, the fuel injection will be running on a fuel map dependant on intake manifold pressure. If you have a leak this would alter the manifold pressure and thus the fuelling.

Does the bike surge a lot when on the move? If you hold a constant throttle does it feel like it's surging? Try it at constant throttles both at small and large openings, this way you can check for surging while running on the manifold map and the throttle map.

No idea re test for cable test other than borrowing someone else's and see if that works - if TB rubbers now good and TPS setting proves to be OK, suggest starting with the fabled BGC routine and checking clutch switch.

Loaded the "2008 SDR with Acro slip on" map and 15 min reset last night. Dielectric grease on the BGC and others.
Had some seating issues with orange rubber seal inside the BGC. (Wonder whether I stuffed that myself when I changed the TB rubber grommets.
Started this morning after overnight temps cooled the engine and no inital high revs.
First time for a long while.
Taking her for a run this morning.
Thanks again 47. Multiple Guiness now owed by me.
Regards Chip
