Hi all, been a while since I last posted.

last time here I had an 06 model. I sold it a few years back to fund a property purchase and I am now back in a position to get another bike.

I have come across a really nice low k's (miles) 09 R model, but I have a few queries I hope you can help me with.

The 09 R model comes with only a single seat. It's not a total deal breaker but would prefer the option for a double. Is there any way to change this and does the subframe come with lugs to mount the footpegs (the bike is a distance from me, so I haven't been able to see it in the flesh yet).

It only has standard cans, which will have to go for a pair of after markets. The salesman is trying to tell me they already come with the ackrapovic headers? Is this correct or a bit of sales talk.

Lastly, what are road manners like on the R compared to the standard Superduke? I know they have a dozen more horsepower, but the main thing I am wondering is what the changes to rake and trail make to the bikes handling? Does it make it flighty on the road?

Thanks for your time. I am in Australia too if that makes any difference.

Hi big fella! I'm just up the road in Rocko!
SDR can be swapped to dual seat, sub-frames are the same.
I've only ridden mine on the track but my 06 is WAY more brutal on fueling.
They come standard with 56mm Akrapovic headers (written on them, good to check)...
I have butt-tins of spares if you'd like to browse the shed and two sets of slip-ons if you decide to pull the trigger.
PM me your number and we can chat if you want.
What dealer has the bike?

The subframe is the same as the standard and you can swap to dual seat. You'll need a few bit but they can all be bought.

08 onwards SDRs do have Akra headers as standard

I've owned 06 SD and 08 SDR and have to say the 06 is a far more pleasant ride in town. SDR is hard work due to the engine throttle response. When you're on it on the roads or on track the SDR comes into its own though.

Cheers Colonel. It won't ever do much in town proper. I live 30 k's out of town and will mostly take it to work which is out of town also. 99% of riding will be highway/back roads.

Is the seating position and peg relationship any different on the R model? I only ask as I loved my last SD as being a big bloke I grew real tired of folding myself into fitting on the race reps. The SD was just so comfortable.

Hey Charger, if you pull the trigger on the R, I could do you a straight swap for the seat. Mine is an 08 SD and would/should fit on no probs. I'll be putting mine on the track and really need that single seat.

Im in Qld so a few days by post

Cheers Reb

Thanks guys.

Hi Reb, cheers for the offer. But if I do buy it I would keep the single in case I ever wanted to go back to standard.

Went and had a test ride on this today. A bit disappointed to travel the 150ks to test ride it to find out it had been dropped off the stand by the previous owner and the left hand fairing had a bit of scratching. No mention of this by the salesman the two times I spoke to him before I traveled to test ride it.

It wasn't listed in the add details and there were no pics of the left hand side in the ad. But either way, the bike rode beautifully and I am still quite keen on it.

It also has had a tank bag on some stage and the tank has a small bit of scratching and the tyres are still the original Diablo's which have gone hard being 4 years old.

Taking all this into account I offered a grand less than the asking price and the salesman acted like I had low balled him. He is going to check with the owner as it is on consignment. I guess we will see, though I really hope he takes it.

Cheers Speedfiend,

When I left I was kind of take it or leave it after discovering the small faults, but on reflection the scratch on the left hand fairing could be fixed for less than $500. A new decal and a cut and polish would just about set it right.

With only 4700ks on the clock and $9K less than a new one for what is essentially the same bike it is a pretty good deal.

Here it is. Absolutely wrapped with it. Didn't miss a beat on the 400km round trip home.

Though it has definitely inspired me to order the TuneECU cable. The low rev throttle response is truly horrifying. It amazes me they are allowed to sell a bike with such terrible low speed fuelling, but not a big deal as I have had one before and know how much better they can be with a decent tune.

It came with the aftermarket gel seat. The previous owner is going to send me the original seat. I will be interested to see if the OEM seat is softer or not. The gel seat seemed quite hard at first but ended up being better than I thought it would be over the long haul.

Now I just need to sort some cans for it. I will have to get on to Linga and see if he still has a set he is looking to get rid of.

Cheers Linga, I will definitely give you a call. How long are you back in for? Month on month off?

Today I ordered the SAS block off plates and gear to make the TuneECU cable. I had the CPR Fab Rotweiller intake loaded up in the online store cart and nearly bought it as well, but backed out. Not really chasing any more horsepower (yet) but god damn that factory air box has poxy little intakes. Just makes me want to make it better.

Well blokes, it was a short lived love affair. Had a ute turn in front of me on the weekend and ploughed into its tray.

Just heard from insurance assessor, she is a complete write off. I haven't seen it yet as I am still in hospital, 5 broken ribs, tear in the lung, fractured vertebrae and nasty hole in my left knee. But on the bright side I am still alive. Good riding gear (except jeans) did a great job.

It is going to take me 3 months to get back onto my feet properly andI will assess what I am going to do from there. Thanks to everyone who helped me with answers and gear with the bike in he first place.

Sorry to hear. Good job wearing the gear, laid up myself with a broken back. It definitely sucks having limited mobility and activity, stay in high spirits though, every day should be better than the last.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Not sure where to from here. It's a strange thing, I only had a bike for the first 5 years I had a license and all of my family also has bikes. So it isn't a hobby. More of a lifestyle and part of my identity. My family are still supportive for me to get back on the bike, but to be honest I am only interested in the superdukes and I was pretty lucky to find that one. I think I will hang off until the 1290 shows up and make a decision from there.

Thanks for the phone message too Linga. I will give you a call when your back next.
