So I just installed an Austin Racing GP2 Carbon can and have not yet done a re-map (still running stock ECU map). I had the bike idleing in my garage listening to the sound and after about 8-10 minutes I noticed the stock header was glowing red. I wasn't hitting the throttle (maybe a couple twists to show off the sound but nothing stressful). Any idea what could be causing this? I've never paid close enough attention to know if the stock setup was doing this also...? I'd prefer not to damage the bike
Thanks for your help

It's running lean!
1290 run pretty lean from start hence the good fuel economy.
Get the akra map loaded ASAP and fit a PCV. With the akra map alone it will run too rich. What it needs is a PCV and a dyno tune or autotune.
Not good to have it running lean like that, holes in pistons and so on.

I can confirm it is lean. My bike used to reach oil temp of 220f° After remap for the track it won't go above 187f°

Comrade roket: I wouldn't listen to acquaintances that don't even own a bike like yours. They might for example, miss the subtleties of what is, and what isn't available for you bike. Instead, I'd look at places that have detailed information and support for candidate systems and go with that which is best known. Looking at Superduke.Net would be a good start

Not sure if Bazzaz makes a system for the 1290 yet. PCV on the other hand most people know and you find also more maps for it, like on here from members.
Most dyno's are dynojet and use PCV also.
I like the PCV as it is small and works well and if you go autotune they have dual channel (2 cyl mapped separately) . Cheap from motomummy or get a complete set with filter from .
https://www.motomummy.com/dynojet-power ... mmander-v/
Not advisable to ride it when it runs that lean, not too far anyway. Just to the dealer only to get it remapped I would say.
Once the akra map is in you be fine. If you can live with the slightly high fuel consumption you can sort the rest out later.

I have an AR GP3 and run the Akra map but not fitted a PCV yet or even sure that I will.
Fuel consumption is up a little but nothing that noticable.
Exhaust pops like mad if you leave the SAS connected but the added bonus is nice flames at night on the overrun.
Neo seems to think that although a little lean on the standard map it won't hurt the bike but it definitely benifits from the Akra map.
BTW did you check the headers out before you changed the zorst, might have been doing it already. I havent had a look at mine in the dark.

The headers on the 990 glow as well.
Looks cool actually, parked in a dark garage clicking as it cools with the front header radiating away.
Made me smile anyway and in my case at least not a sign of anything wrong with the AF ratio.
