Hi guys

Have just had my new 1290 SD delivered from an up country dealer, he is telling me that due to the massive altitude difference (1,753 meters) from where they pre-delivery serviced the bike (it now has 4.7Km on it) I have to do the 15 min idle reset. Has anyone else experienced this on the 1290?

Cheers

Doesn't matter what the bike is. If its FI it is a good idea to do the reset. Start the bike and don't touch anything for 15 mins. Then kill the engine with the key. All should be good.

I Feel sorry for you. A 15 minute idle would be the last thing I'd want to do on a motor that fresh.

Interesting - what is that makes anyone think that a 15 minute reset is needed, or is even applicable to the 1290.

Personally, I've come question any such advice stealers give out any longer, unless I know well who I'm dealing with.

What they are suggesting here is borderline ridiculous: There are atmospheric pressure and temperature sensor(s - at least one of each), and O2 sensors, that provide real-time feedback to the ECM, so you shouldn't have to ever adjust the idle.

Seriously - even if the bike had an old-style open-loop feedback FI system (no O2 sensors - and not the case for the 1290), it would still have an air pressure and temperature sensor to adjust map selection and/or trim idle fueling accordingly.

Personally, I'd have told him to come get the bike and deal with it - it's under warranty after all.
