I just bought a ktm 990 super duke...Ive had the bike for a couple of weeks and its one of the best handling bikes I have owned. Its really hard to find a duke in canada and i had to get a US model. It only has 2200 kilometre ..
Anyway ...my awesome bike will not start..WTF
I started the bike yesterday and it just died after a couple of mins .
It turns over , but will not start.
any ideas ..i really don't want to have to go to the dealer..
I just ordered the cables for the ecu so i can't even look for error messages ..
i left the ignition on for a few mins but no errors came up..
any help would be great...we only get so much summer here ..so the clock is ticking...
thanks in advance

I bought a bike with extremely low mileage on it this year and I had a similar experience. Fuel injectors were clogged with old/gelled fuel in my situation.
Sounds like your issue doesn't stem from a low battery, so fuel and ignition is where I'd look first. Fuses, etc...

When you say after a few minutes, is that just idling, being revved, just setting off or being ridden? There are a number of different things that could affect it, just depends on what was happening at the time.
Oh and welcome to the site.

Have you 'touched' anything eg tilted the head mask forward, disconnected the fuel lines? Does opening the fuel tank cap come with a hiss of air?

i have done nothing to the bike, it is how i got it..someone has put an exhaust on it ...acrapovic ..i think from the factory
I was thinking of pulling the SAS stuff off and putting an air filter on it.
but i would really like to get my bike going and just ride it...its fast enough right now , maybe over the winter i will do some stuff.
any ideas anyone

I started the bike and it was just sat idling and it just stopped, i tried to start again and it fired for a second then nothing.
maybe a fuel relay ?
and thankyou for the welcome

You try giving it some throttle while turning it over?

Fuel sounds like a good guess to me. If it ran and died, turns over vigorously I would dump the tank, add one gallon of stuff you know is good shit, shake around to maybe dislodge the shit at the pump intake and try again. You need a good charge and good ground. Dont dig too deep for a solution they will ussually shape up and ship right if you get them to belive they are leaving on a onehudred and thirty mile loop. When you enter the garage and are headed toward the bike be fully kitted and say real loud, back toward the door, " Honey I'll only be gone till 3:30", that should do the trick. Go to the garage in you pajamas and the little bastard has surely got you number. Threaten to ride the other bike, that works also.
This is one of those things that you need to figure out on your own. Stay away from the shop till you have your own quality diagnosis. This bike loves attention and will find a myriad number of ways to test you resolve.
Good luck.

Ronald, I'm in Toronto.
I know when I picked my 08 up at Apex Cycle with 8 kms on it I had some sort of grounding issue that stranded me on the 401. It took them a day to find it and it was a loose ground from the stator!!! from the factory!!!
i have had no issues what so ever over the last 16,000km.
Where are you???
