My gauges have been crapping out since I bought my 2007 SD last month. The tach needle does not move, and the digital functions flicker on and off. Previous owner said it happened when they got wet, which I understand is pretty common from doing a few searches. Curious what you guys suggest as a solution, I'd like to have a tac again. Plus I'm pretty sure the other functions will shit the bed in the near future. Munn sells a new unit for about $320 which is actually not too bad, but I heard there is an updated version that is more water resistant? Or just ditch it altogether and get the Vapor that has a tac function? Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions!

Hi, I had exactly the same problem, symptoms as you describe. I drilled a little hole in the side of the clear plastic casing (covered with tape when not venting) but didn't fix the problem as my facing was also cracked.

I asked the shop for a quote for the new clocks; they are about 270 pounds in the UK and they estimated 3 HOURS labour to fit them.
I bought some new clocks on EBay, they looked mint but the seller could not guarantee whether they worked at all, got the for 70 pounds.

I installed them myself, having never undone the front before, in abut 30 mins. The new version clocks are exactly plug and play, they seem much better built for water resistance.

recommend getting the new clocks and perfectly easy to fit yourself.

3 hours! Hahaha, wow. I've already had mine off and on a few times trying to troubleshoot the problem and under 30 minutes is about right. Glad you got yours sorted out, I'd love to find a set for so cheap! is it the newer version that looks like this one on German Ebay?: http://www.ebay.de/itm/KTM-990-SUPERDUK ... 53f0e057d0

Mine looks like this older version, which Munn sells new for less than what this one costs: http://www.ebay.de/itm/KTM-Superduke-20 ... 5af2ccbb02

I would hate to buy it and have it get wet and poop out again. Thanks for the reply.

You are correct the one with the rectangular rubber buttons is the later model which is reputed to be more waterproof.
There are other threads on this forum with the part numbers.

Yes, I installed the new one- first link/square buttons.

the 2nd hand clocks were a gamble as the seller couldnt check whether they worked. They did look mint though.
Plug and play.

He threw in an old cracked version too. I suspect the insides are the same so might be useful.

Woah, woah, woah before you buy or do anything to modify your current gauges... Take it to the dealer. No, not kidding. I took mine in and like many others on here were given the new updated gauges for the cost of install/reprogramming. Totaled to ~$50.

I just mentioned that they were on the fritz and a friend of mine had the same issue (being all of you guys ) and asked if there was a service bulletin out for them. My dealer contacted KTM USA and the gauges were 'good-willed'. I, personally, wouldn't buy the same set you're using now as they're renowned for breaking... again.

This JUST happened about a week ago, so if the dealer tries to charge you full price I'd say it's them trying to get some money out of you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up on that, I will definitely check with the local dealer, woohoo! That would be a very happy ending to this story.
