Hi all, I have an 07 990R 18k miles with full ti Akrapovic, motohooligan intake, SAS rmeoved etc. no issues at all for 6k miles since bought, mostly used on track and Sunday rides. I have an electrical issue with it now I cant figure out, hoping you can help.

Current issue is lights and dash turn on, fuel pump does not prime and starter does not turn.

Some back story, I was on a trackday and bike slowly stalled with FI light on constant and would not rev properly. Back at the pits the bike started fine and idled fine, giving it throttle and keeping it at steady rpm it would bounce up and down the revs. Called it a day and went home, next day cleaned connections near the battery and the BGC with servisol isopropyl alcohol, let it dry and sprayed servisol silicone grease. Bike started fine, did 15 minute idle, went for a ride and after 150 miles bike did the same as on track, slowly lost power, would not rev with a constant FI light, then would not start at all. Back home again, checked fuses with millimeter all fine, cleaned BGC again, unplugged TPS and put back in, and it started then reved it it dies with solid FI light and would not start again.

I also tried to connect to TuneECU with 3 different computers with different operating systems and could not connect, either I cant setup TuneECU properly or it cant read the 990 ECU, could the BGC be causing all this?

What are your guys thoughts on this?
Thanks
Ernie

Think first step is getting you hooked up to TuneECU (though gut feel is that problem might be battery and/or reg/rec and associated wiring) - happy to come to you with TuneECU loaded laptop or, preferably if you think you’ll make it, come here as I have spare TPS, etc.

So after charging battery and cleaning the BGC again the bike connected to TuneECU, there was no errors. I started the bike, it idled for couple of minutes, then it stop, power still on and I got 3 errors come on TuneECU and it told me ECU is no longer connected and i couldn't start the bike again. the Errors were:

p0122 - throttle position sensor low voltage (short to ground or open circuit)
p0201 - injector 1 circuit malfunction
p0202 - injector 2 circuit malfunction

I left the bike for couple of hours went back to it and it started, idled fine, gave it throttle no problem. switched the bike off and the back on again and it wouldn't start again, and no TuneECU connection. Its as if the bike cant connect to the ECU to start.

Thoughts on this?

As per PMs, gut feel for first check is whether battery is holding charge even though you may not be getting red battery warning light.

Tested the battery today, was fully charged last week. Readings are:

Ignition off: 12.5
Ignition on: 12.3
Engine running: 13.8

Here are some pictures of the bike connected to TuneECU

Ignition on:

Engine Running:

So, no error codes either - what happens to battery voltage when engine is kept running and at point when it stalls?

Typical... starts and runs fine every time now, have had the bike in the house for a few nights now, maybe something dried?

last night still starting fine, im going to have in the house for couple of months to do valve checks, water pump rebuild etc.
is it worth buying another battery then? same as the stock or are there lighter more reliable options?

Lot's of threads on here re OE v alternatives including lithium batteries - my simple view is that OE Yuasa battery is best option but buy online or, better still, from a Honda dealer, and not from KTM, as much cheaper.

Update.
Have replaced the battery, fuel pump/filters, spark plugs and coils, tested rectifier and cleaned/greased BGC multiple times, TPS voltage is correct, done 15 min idle reset.

bike has been starting fine only ones the fuel pump did not prime and disconnect and reconnect BGC fixed issue. most common issue now is while riding the bike loses power for a second with FI light, doesn't matter what speed, gear or RPM. for example doing 70mph around 6k rpm steady throttle bike will lose engine power for a second drop down to 5k rpm and kick back into power really quick, sometime happens ones or it would keep repeating every so often, this lose of engine power and kick back keeps repeating until engine struggles to keep power and eventually engine dies, wheels do no lock up, dash does not turn off, only FI light shown. switching ignition or kill switch will start the bike after and it would be fine for a few more miles until it would happen again. sometimes doesn't happen for 50 miles. TuneECU does not report an errors after.

any thoughts? Im tempted to buy another injection unit and wiring loom of ebay to eliminate it being injection/TPS/BGC unless all of this is caused by ECU?

Not clear - have you replaced the fuel pump itself or just the filters?
