So let's assume a bog stock SDR 990 but with Akras (of course). What is the full list of mods one need to do to get rid of any superfluous eco nonsense and turn it into a full fat R?
SAS removal
Secondary butterfly removal
O2 sensor disable or removal
Gear based limiter (if fitted)
Am I missing anything? I am booked in for a dyno tune on Friday and want to sort it out all at once ideally. Is there a power limiter for the first couple of gears or is that a myth (told to me by a guy with an Adventurer)?
Screwd.

The Akra map has already removed the gear based limiter. Are you getting the bike tuned with TuneECU? You can turn of the O2 sensors with that. Personally I'd leave the 2nd flies in but it's up to you. You can either completely remove the SAS or just plug the hoses to each cylinder to achieve the same thing.
I would have sorted an aftermarket airbox before getting the bike tuned. Gives you more grunt and sounds fooking awesome with the induction roar.

Ok thanks. I might see if I can get a reduced rate for a second tune up because there just isn't time to get all that done first.
On the other hand I could delay the booking until I have removed the SAS and fitted a decent air box but can I run the bike safely in the meantime? Lets say I do those two mods. Will resetting the ECU give me a useable/rideable bike until I can get it onto a dyno? More importantly, do I really need a Power Commander? That last question is driving me nuts. Some say you do, some say you don't. What say you?
Am I right in thinking the ECU reset is simply a matter of letting the bike tick over for 15 minutes? Do I need to disconnect the battery prior to this?
Sorry for asking all the same questions all over again but after searching this site, I am none the wiser.

You currently running the akra map? Guessing you are seeing as you've got them fitted, if so it'll be ok to run it fully modded in the mean time.
Ref the Power Commander, it depends if your tuner works with TuneECU or not. If they then you don't need it, if they don't you can get it mapped using it and then transfer the new map to the Ecu if you want to get rid of it.
For the reset, is just let it idle for 15 min without touching the throttle, no need to disconnect the battery first.

The thing is, I don't know. I am told it's running "the right map" but I don't think it's running properly at all.
Regards power commander, again, I don't know if cooperize use TuneECU or not. All I do know is Ken Cooper has a brand spanky new 990 Adventure and is the local go-to guy for KTM. Interesting you say I wouldn't need the PC after mapping the system using a PC. So the power commander isn't a dynamic system? Once the bike ECU has the correct map loaded, it will adjust fuelling, timing etc. based on throttle openings just like a piggyback PC would?
I will try the reset now and see what happens and if anyone has an after market air box for sale anywhere near London, I'll grab it now thanks! Same goes for SAS blanks, guess I'll need a set of those pronto.

Where do you live? John @ Track Electronic in Norwich will tune using TuneECU. It might cost you more to get there in petrol/diesel but you won't have to buy a Power Commander. Weigh it up. Also with TuneECU he can adjust ignition timing and 2nd flies, not something that can be done with a PC. If I were in your shoes I'd put off the tune, buy a airbox and look into whether your guy can tune with TuneECU.

Thanks C_K. He comes highly recommended and like I say, has his own KTM so I would hope he has all the goodies. I'll ask on Monday. Meantime I am looking at getting a Rottweiler air filter, before it gets to the dyno!
Think I'll keep the SAS and fit a small K&N on the inlet. I like the idea of popping exhausts and flames. Can't believe anyone wouldn't. If there's no harm in it, I'll pop the db killers out and do the 15 minute reset.
Not quite sure what gets reset mind or why it might need it.
