Any 1290 Riders experience this?

My 1290 duke that I've had for 3 1/2 weeks since new has 3080 miles on it. Mostly stock, however I have removed the sas valve(and installed the resistor for the plug) but what my bike has been doing is, slowly returning to idle. Its been doing it since it was new. It also seems to be more evident while moving and when its hot, by pulling in the clutch the engine will take around 6 seconds to go from 2500 rpm to the idle which on my bike is around 1450 rpms. When stopped it seems to take about 3 seconds from the 2500 rpm mark. Any thing above 2500 rpms, the engine seems to decrease in rpm normally until getting to the 2500 rpm range where it seems "hit the brakes". Is this usual for this bike? If not any suggestions as to what it could be?

My uneducated guess would be to check your throttle tube isn't sticking?

Cheers,
Jeremy

If it's been doing it since new, did you question it with the dealer during first service?
BTW - 3080 miles in first 3 1/2 weeks

I do my own service, after all this is my 34th motorcycle since I was 16(40 now). Yes 3080 miles in 3 weeks, I'm one who rides, and very little interstate. I did ask the mechanic and was told it was normal, but I'm just not buying it. My weakness though is software issues, I don't have diagnostic equipment, so I pretty much deal with nuts and bolts issues.

Have you tried a 15min cold start idle adaption to see if it makes any difference?

What exactly is a "cold start adaption"?

I think I'll try the cold start procedure tonight to see if anything changes. I have been waiting since day one for KTM to send a valve cover gasket that's been on backorder for my rear cylinder that's been leaking. When it finally comes in and KTM schedules to relace it under warranty, I'll have them check it out.
Oh Ktmguy, thanks for your responses on my questions I have posted since receiving the bike. Update to you on the 1290 using coolant deal I experience, no usage after the first two times of having to refill the reservoir. Apparently that is a common start for KTM according to the 1190 adventure guys. They suggested that the system was indeed burping itself claiming that even at the factory that they do not get all the air out of the system or it was going into a "vaporization" mode if it's really hot to reduce pressure in the system. I live in Arizona that I've been riding in 108-110°. Now that it's July and even though the 1290 is my new toy, I'm going to take a little bit of time off riding through August until the 108-118° days are over.

Did you ever get this sorted Johnny? Seems to be quite a few owners still experiencing this issue.

2 Fixes i have heard to date are:

10 min idle reset.
Oil Temp Sensor replacement

No, it seems to be an issue when hot out or riding through town. I've just gotten used to it, think of it as my bikes "personality". I like the bike so much(except for not having cruise control) that I don't nitpick nearly as much as I did when first getting the bike.

I did a couple of tests today as I fitted the rotty filter and the 80/80 stacks and the bike had similar issues but not as bad as some describe here.
Just hanging above idle and slow dropping when the throttle gets closed.

The auto tune reads very rich at idle on both cylinders, probably a combination of shorter stacks, freshly oiled filter and the O2 sensors removed and plugged.
I adjusted the 0% and 2% tables in the PCV in the idle RPM range by -2 and the problem is gone.
Close the throttle and the RPMs drops back like it should.

Interesting indeed Guy. I always thought that slow idle drop was symptomatic of a lean condition.

Are you running the base or akra maps? And in what RPM ranges did you drop the values in 0% and -2% colums?
