Just found that my bike has had an attempted theft on it. The key wouldnt turn right then noticed that the plug at the bottom of the ignition barrel had been ripped out and they had connected two wires together.
I'll need a new barrel and maybe ignition look but are the keys coded to the ECU?

Thieving bastards! The keys aren't coded if that helps you in any way? There was a lock barrel for sale on ebay, worth a look.
I assume it was chained down so they couldn't squirrel it away?

If you have a NCB on your insurance and the cost of fixing the bike yourself is affordable, then avoid and insurance claim, as having a claim against you up's your future premiums, and some insurers may suddenly think you're not a safe bet anymore...
I very much regret letting my insurers give me an entire new frame when thieves snapped my steering lock. The £2000+ it cost to supply and rebuild the bike has been haunting my premiums for the last 4 years. At the time it seemed fine... but as well as costing me £200 excess, it's cost me hundreds more in raised annual premiums.
I now don't often use the steering lock. It's crap anyway.

There is a thriving market in the far east for nicked bikes, Thailand and the Phillipines you see a lot of obviously nicked bikes mostly from Japan,
I found a small bike shop in Shanghai last month that had an orange 05 SD, when I asked the guy where it came from he said it was a UK bike, for sale price 45,000RMB, about 4,400 GBP with a busted ignition!
I will be back next week and try to get some pics

Think the main lock with key is only about £60!!
I asked when I needed a new barrel on my SDR seat lock (which was only about £12!!)
I couldnt believe how inexpensive these parts are!!
Dont bother with fleabay just go direct with a dealer I just picked one outta the back of the MCN, think even the postage was free!!
