Battery charger question

Is there any reason why you can't or shouldn't connect an Optimate-type battery tender/trickle charger to the ACC2 wires (I think that's the one that has the permanenet live feed) behind the headlight shroud?
I have a short charger wire connected directly to the battery and the socket is under the bike. It gets covered in crap and is a pain to connect. A socket near the dash would be much easier.

You can move your charge cord up and out of harms way by connecting to the starter relay.
Follow the large battery positive wire up to the relay and connect the battery tender wire there.
A engine ground wire is also adjacent.
The end of my tender cord is on the left side of the bike 'bout 3 inches under the gas tank, high, dry and clean, and easy to access..
Since I am not an electrical engineer, I try not to second guess where and how wires are connected thru a wiring harness and black boxes and avoid modifications if possible.
It's really hard to get the smoke back into those black boxes.

Plus those acc wires are a smaller gauge wire than whats on the battery tender cord.

I take your point - better safe than sorry!
Thanks Doug

Aren't the acc leads run through relays? With the key in the off postion there would be no connectivity to your battery.
