Hey guys.
I'm sure this has been chatted about somewhere, but what are your thoughts on breaking in a brand new engine. I just bought a new 2015 SD 1290 R. It's got 5km's on it from the dealer prep/factory. It has sat around their dealership for over a year.
Now this isn't my first brand new bike. And I've gotten mixed reviews. A few mechanics that I've talked to say the best way to break in, is to really run the engine through ALL rev ranges and never keep the engine at a constant RPM. My last new bike was a GSXR 1000. I rode it like I stole it right from the beginning and it was by far the best engine and bike I have ever owned!
Any thoughts??

Any reason you would not follow the break in per the manual?

From others doing motorcycle VLOG's on youtube, i noticed on the Superduke that it has a red light that comes on when you rev the engine above a certain RPM during "break in". I would guess that the manufacturer of the engine (KTM) would have done some sort of studies to find out how to break in their own engines and when the red light should come on.
That being said, the question i ask you guys is, do any of you have any suggestions or tips on how you break in a brand new engine??
