Hey everyone,

Still running through my check list of SD990 repairs. In the process of selling my 1996 vfr750 and 1984 900 ninja to help speed things along on this bike. I'm loving everything this bike has been doing and there's so much more I want to do!

Next up, Final drive.

Ill be replacing the current 530, 17 front sprocket to a 520 super lite set with a 16 tooth front. I was thinking of going up a tooth or 2 in the rear or would that be too much loss on the top speed? If I change the sprocket sizes do I need a speedo healer?

You won't need a speedo healer as the pickup is on the front wheel.
If you're dropping a tooth on the front you shouldn't need to go +2 on the rear, unless you're going racing around a go kart track..

530?

I thought these bikes were 525 stock? Unless the PO had gone to a 530 set up? Also after 2006 I believe 16T on the front was stock, as pre-06 was a 17T front stock.

I have 16/39 right now and it's alright. But then again I've had 16/38 for the last 5 years, it's not a huge difference but noticeable. Lot's of people a 40/41 rear sprocket for easier wheelies.

Ive just ordered a a 530 DID chain and sprocket from Sprocket centre for my multistrada. i last put chain and sprockets on it at 20,000Ks, its now done 70,000Ks plus. and the chain and sprockets are still in very good condition. But I'm replacing the chain and from sprockets so i don't get caught out on a big tour ride. DID ZVMX, they are the best out there.

Anyone know if I can reuse my toothed securing plate again with the new chain, even for a little. I ordered one but probably won't get it for over 2 weeks and need to change this chain and sprockets like now!
