Code 02 pulse generator

I know, I know, this has been talked about a million times.

But I need some specifics.

I had a very bad batch of fuel(it was actually sun kist orange, no shit). I drained the tank, cleaned the filters in the fuel pump, added new gas and restarted the bike,

It ran for about 2 minutes and then it died.

Restarted, it ran for about 30 seconds and died again.

Then it wouldn't restart. I figured it was flooded.

I waited about 20 minutes, same procedure, same result. I didn't pay attention to the FI light until just recently. Reset the ecu, hoping that would clear it.

Restarted the bike, exact same result.

I have a tune ecu cable but no computer to use it with( we're a Mac family).

Started to remove the generator cover to take a look at the pulse generator unit, but oil started pouring out of the bottom, which I thought was unusual.

Any ideas? How often does the PG fail?

I reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. The connector(I found out) the connects the pulse generator to the generator is located near the batter connections, which looked gummed and covered in oil and road shit. I always check the grey connector, but that doesn't seem to be the issue.

I'll check the headlight tip over switch next. But all that has to wait till the typhoon rolls past.

Sorry about the delay.

Yes, I know. I found something on the internet that said disconnect the battery and let it sit for 30 minutes, then let it remap after 10 minutes.

Back on topic.

Checked all the plugs, cleaned them (a few had rocks, the set by the battery). applied dielectric grease to everything.

Started it up, ran for 2 minutes and then died again, flashing code 2.

Is the only way to fix this damn problem to get the tunecu working? There HAS to be another work around.

I only have a Mac and I don't have a windows image on it.

just found out that tuneecu has updated the system to where you can purchase a android tablet and monitor from there. Guess I have to drop some bills to get this to work. If anybody else has some suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

I'm in yokosuka japan. And I wasn't able to find the tip over sensor. do you happen to have a pic of it? I was google searching the damn thing and couldn't find it.

and yes, the pump primes. I can hear it each time the bike starts. Also, I just tried to start the bike and it actually ran for about 10 minutes. I shut it down, took it off the stand. I'm going to let it sit for about an hour and try to start it up again.

*edit* I found the tip over sensor. Its labeled...up. I went ahead and greased all the plugs in the head light too.

run number 2, its been on for about 3 minutes and hasn't shut off. Fan just kicked on right now.

back to the drawing board. just started it up to show off the progress to the wife. crapped out after 2 minutes and then threw the code again.

seriously, what the hell? this screams loose connection somewhere.

So honestly, if I get this tablet and use the tuneecu to check this thing out, is it actually going to work? Can I make codes clear or run a diagnostic to make this thing work? Because my next option, and I'm serious, is just parting this damn thing out. I purchased it last year and it has been nothing but a giant headache. its the biggest pain in the ass I have ever owned. It will be Aprilia's from now on after this (my Tuono is in storage in the States and I wish I had shipped it here).

But enough of crying.

Will this work if I get the tuneecu to clear the code 2? Or is that even possible?

thanks again for your help. I was reading up on the tuneecu sight and there are a few tablets that use the Bluetooth but the rest actually use the cable with a mini usb to usb plug.

It actually ran yesterday. I started it up (before it died in front of the wife). I rode it around the neighborhood for about 10 minutes. then I parked it. Before it died, I started it on the pit stand and on the side stand.

if the pump was gunked or the filter messed up, it probably wouldn't have run like it did. the pump primes and it turns over, but I just don't have the spark for some reason(after it shuts off). and I don't have spark after 2 minutes of running (or however long it takes for the code 2 to shut it down).

it will run when it starts up initially, but then it shuts off and refuses to run after that until...whatever happens. Either the fuel in the bowls is gone, it doesn't see itself flooded, or whatever the actual issue is.

I know the map is garbage. The previous owner left me everything and I viewed a stock map versus his map and it didn't look right. I'm buying a tablet today and loading the program. I'll let you guys know more after tonight. At least I'll get to see whats going on with the damn thing.

The map could be garbage but that is no reason for the bike to stall.

Don't want to search and read all the previous post but did you replaced the fuel filter. If the fault is intermediate it could be something clogging up the filter and dissolves when sitting still.
Is the vent hole of the tank free? If it stalls try to open the filler cap, if it feels vacuum.....

Another thing, anything spilled when you cleaned the tank? Check the connector to the ecu under the tank. Any moisture or corroded pins will do funny stuff. While you there have another look at BGC and so.

I cleaned the filters up (they were disgusting) and bought a new filter kit, just haven't installed it yet. the vent is good because after I drained it last time, gas came pissing out all over the place when I righted it up. No spills on any plugs, just the pavement. I haven't pulled the ecu out and checked the pins yet. I'll double check that.

I'm gonna close this thread out and start a new one. Got the tune ecu setup and its throwing code PO335, crankshaft position sensor.
