connections for tuning

I've been trying to get my 07 SD remapped by a local tuner that has no experience with KTM but lots of experience tuning other Euro bikes. I don't have any other option within a reasonable distance. He's going to make adjustments to the trim in my PCIII, then I'll integrate those into the map in my ECU with TuneECU and remove the PCIII.

This tuner has had some trouble figuring out how to connect his data-logging module to my bike's electrical system (the goal is to take about 30 minutes worth of AFR readings during actual riding on the road). We got the lambda probe ports enlarged to accept his wide-band 02 sensors, but he's had trouble finding all the electrical connections he needs. He has the correct workshop manual, and has looked at the wiring diagrams, but he says he can't find some information he needs. He had expected this to be an easy hook-up, but apparently it's not.

Now, keep in mind that I wasn't with him during his investigation, and I'm not certain I clearly understood the difficulty he was having from our short conversation. He was going to do his own research, but I figured I'd ask those of you who have done this sort of thing before how you made your connections. I think he needs to tap into wires that will give him signals for RPM, TPS, and maybe gear selection? Those of you who have done this already know what connections are necessary. I'm sorry I don't even know enough to ask the question properly.

Anyway, how/where do you tap into the various signals needed to construct a proper AFR chart to be used for remapping?

Thanks in advance for your help.

RPM you can just pull off of the trigger wire... front or rear, they're both the same. TPS will have to come from... wait for it... the TPS. For gear selector you're on your own, as the factory unit only covers gears 1-3.

The tuner seemed intent on accessing the wire to the tachometer, but couldn't determine which wire fed it. I found a reference elsewhere that listed the blue/white wire as doing so, but couldn't confirm that from the wiring diagram, since the wiring into the dashboard isn't labeled by function there. For some reason he was reluctant to use the trigger wires (I'm assuming that term refers to the wires that cue the resistors to fire the spark plugs, right?). I think he was also looking for a way to access the TPS signal from somewhere else in the wiring loom; I don't know why. Gear selection might have only been an issue for the dyno runs, come to think of it.

Do Ducatis, Aprilias, Triumphs and BMW's have a simpler arrangement where a tuner can just tap into what's needed in a single location, like a plug behind the dash or near the ECU? Just curious, since the tuner seemed to think KTM's setup wasn't as well-developed. Of course, maybe he's the one that's behind...
