Hi guys, possibly a numpty novice question...
I read here somewhere that inspecting the oil filter was a quick way of checking if the water pump was leaking coolant in to the engine, is this true and does taking the filter out mean draining all the oil out?
Also, if the water pump seals do need replacing will this mean draining the oil as well? Just need to know whether to order new oil filters seals etc. as well...

Cheers, s

Yes, yes (but you could lay the bike on it's side and not drain the oil, I guess) and yes - and you will need a water pump shaft as well (there are shaft and seal upgrade kits available).

The easiest way is looking under the radiator cap. If the coolant is low, top it off. Ride it some, if it's low again, replace the seal.

A wavy air filter can also be an indicator. But do you really want to pull the tank to check it?

Just read thru that link, as I think my water pump seals may need done.
Looks like the dealer is going to getting the coin for doing this job as I don't know when the hell I would have time to do it.
