Being smarter than most, I managed to drop a plastic nozzle from a gas can into my gas tank. It's about 4 inches long and has disappeared into the recesses of the tank. Not having much luck retrieving it. I would really prefer not to remove the tank as I'm sure it won't want to go back on.
General consensus is that it shouldn't cause a problem, will just knock around in there. i'm just worried that it will interrupt the flow of gas just when I need it.
Other opinions appreciated. (about the problem, not about me)

Just leave it!
Have a look at a pic of the fuel pump, a 4inch fuel nozzle wont block flow in any way!
So either bend a coat hanger and fish it out or just forget about it

Pffft....pull the tank and then fuel pump and pull that thing outta there. Can check your fuel filters at the same time. Little silcon grease on the o-rings and it'll go back together easily.

yeah, removing the tank takes 15 mins tops, it's only a few bolts. Granted getting it back can be challenge for some but never for me. Get that bastid outta there.

Would the plastic thing float? Maybe fill the tank a little and see that brings it a little closer to the top hole?

Nah, sunk like a rock. I'm going to borrow this tool with a closable claw on the end and try my luck. Last time I took the tank off, it was impossible to get back on and the dealer had to order a new one because it had swollen and would not fit.
