Hi all, has anyone ever completely dismantled the instrument cluster? How does the rev counter needle come off? I guess it just pulls straight off? I can't see anything holding it and I don't want to break it

Which SD/SDR?
I have dismantled my 08 SDR cluster - the tacho needle can be (gently) pulled off, the display sheet lifted out and the electronics panel removed after unscrewing two or three screws.

Ah, thanks, it's an 08 SD. I'll have another go with it now. It's a bit crappy that it filled up with water and I can't see really where it might have got in. Thanks again.
*edit: ok, a bit more force and the needle came away just fine. Shame but the pcb looks fried to me. Will give it a go anyway when it's all dried out. Thanks again.

I think I read that KTM made them water prooof. Anyone know what year this took place? 2009 ?? Nice to know for replaccement time. I bought a new unit for my 08SD and have seen moisture behind the bezel. Mileage was set to 666 per request

I had the '08 instrument cluster and it leaked like a sive and finally broke completely. KTM replaced it for free when the bike was out of warranty with the 2010 version and so far it has been fantastic. Works great and does not leak. The '08 instrument cluster is basically a defective unit that should have been recalled but never actually was. I remember I couldn't even wash my bike without the instruments filling up with condensation afterwards.........what a piece of junk! No such problems with the 2010 version.

Thanks guys, I'm gunna try for a replacement with KTM then but its retarded to have a unit like that. Its the first time I've ever taken the bike out in some serious weather. Have to say I'm disappointed
Its totally screwed anyhow, electronics are fried.

BAKED : I recently took mine, wich had water damage too, and would only turn the light on and nothing else, to an electronic repair friend of mine....he fixed it....it works now....so if you´re willing to try to fix your, send me the inner only, no outside casing or anything, just the electronics, put a couple of hard cardboard parts to sandwich it, place it inside a bubble lined envelope and ship to me in mexico ( I can pm you the address if you´re interested ), it´ll be around 12 buck to ship, if it´s worth it for you, he might just make it work again like mine......
to waterproof it, I have drilled the smallest hole possible where the water poodles on the inside, and lined the back of the electronis with clear silicone, a thin amount, and when I closed it, some more silicone around the inner rim, that had worked in the past with my previous speedo....untill i crashed, LOL

Just for info bought some used knackered 08 SDR clocks off ebay pretty cheap, tacho works so thought would be handy as track bike clocks but wanted to see if they were fixable so LCD screen works again.
Was immediately apparent a pin was broken where it connects to ecu wiring and also that a capacitor has blown leaking a little fluid open dismantling.
Just seeing if it is all repairable or will stay as a track dash.
Pics for info.
