What was the deal with DNA filters in the end. I remember a massive thread but did the mk2 or 3 turn out to give the best gains on the SD?

Someone (can't remember off the top of my head) did a review of the Motobox and the stage 3 DNA. Basically:

The DNA produced the best gains. Noticeably better than the Motobox in both feel and dyno-proven. HOWEVER, the person said that they didn't feel the gains were enough to justify buying the DNA if you already had already spent the money on a Motobox. If you have a bone stock SD and are looking for your first air box, then definitely go with the stage 3 DNA.

Hmmm,

The way I remember it...the DNA didn't make any noticeable improvement over the MH box. Almost identical numbers.

Without going back over it......I had both mapped and on Dyno (Motorhooligan and then DNA mk3) DNA mk3 was/is better and the difference on my bike was 4hp at the top...and MUCH more grunt low down and mid range and on part throttle no comparison (Motorhooligan gave same results at 100% throttle as DNA mk3 did on 75% throttle Dyno pull...i have dyno sheets from Crescent to back this up

If your engine can breathe deep enough (eg. Flowed heads or vs/dvs improvements)... The DNA is the best... Its just that your pockets need to deep enough to fund it. Law of diminishing returns... Yes its better but it costs substantially more... That being said, people are happy to spend silly money on pipes which cannot give the same amount of hp or torque

That being said, if I were to buy another box it would be the DNA stage3 as it is the best.

off topic here but the spacer is not likely to happen, there is something much better in the pipeline

MH (Blue) Verse MK3 air box (Red), same bike, same dyno, tested on the same day.
Akra maps loaded for both MH & MK3, PCIII Zero maps for both Air boxes. The only thing changed was the air boxes.

Are they are just pulls though rather than tuned to suit the boxes??

Without the akra and custom map loaded on the PCIII for the MH box your numbers are flawed. Having said that, your caomparison is the best that has been conducted between the two boxes.

the dna looks the better option for me , as i have yet to do a thing to mine other than the akras.

the fact that it will fit mr z stacks is a plus .

@ mr z , would your stacks work with the pods ?

to the people who have dna , did you get them direct , or a uk dealer ?

I bought my DNA3 direct.
As regards the DNA v the Motohooligan v, etc. I know some people did get quite excited in their defense / attack of one box or another.
All I can say with regards to the DNA3 i was personally satisfied that the DNA3 was worth the extra money.
On Kev's dyno we were also satisfied that the performance of the DNA matched our best case scenario making almost 5bhp more than our modded airbox. The DNA3 made the same power as no airbox at all.
I am hoping to realise the full benefits of the increased air flow capacity with the tuned motor.
So, in a word: recommended.

I have dynoed my bike with a MH with custom map and a DNA3 with custom map back to back. They were almost identical. Both great improvements but if you want to use MR Z's DVS's then I would go the DNA because of the extra height, better air filter and tighter filter seal.Cheers
