If I don't have the axle removal tool what is best to use to punch the front hex end through with a rubber mallet?

Axle removal tool?

If you want to take of the front wheel, place front of bike on jack up stand, take of brake calipers, undo the nut on the end of axle (cant remember if its allen key or 32mm spanner) then undo the 4 the small allen key clamps, give it a little tap with rubber mallet or your hand and should slide out without drama.

Mine just has a 12mm Allen key hole on the end. Going to have to find a hex large enough to fit.

That Allen key is just an end cap that holds the axle in the correct position. Just crack the joint
then loosen the four fork allen keys which grip the axel then the thing should slide out without any real force.
DON'T try to get the axle out without loosening the four allen bolts

Dear all: beg, borrow, steal - or, hang on to your seat - purchase a goddamned service manual.

Going to a forum for something this trivial suggests you are new to motorcycling. Then you're going to need torque specs to put it back together properly.

Seriously - get the documentation, read, learn, then ask questions.

Are you talking about some manual other than the one you can download for free?

I didn't get anything with my bike apart from a key and transfer papers when I bought it off the previous owner. I have downloaded the service manual and it is making sense, although I have put all my weight (100kg) on that "collar screw" and the thing wont even budge...

Breaker bar did the job with quite a bit of persuasion! All fasteners done up to torque specs.
