So I'm having a couple errors ordering off of my website, but once it's sorted I'll be getting a new fuel filter plus a couple extra parts (O-rings and such). How easy/hard is it to swap out your fuel filter. I've never had to do it on a bike before and I haven't been able to find anything on the forum about it.

It's not a difficult job. Photograph everything as you take it apart. The filter (tea bag shaped one) can be a bitch to pop on the bottom. Heating the mount point with a hair dryer helped. Make sure the metal clips click back fully in place or you will lose fuel pressure. I made this mistake first time round.

OK. Where is the fuel filter? I mean I'm assuming its near the gas tank but I just want to get an idea of what I'm looking for. If the filter is clogged like I suspect, what will it look like?

Remove the fuel pump from the tank. It's built into the pump. Tea bag filter is obvious and there is another filter in the top of the pump when you take it apart. Be careful putting the pump back in the tank. It's very easy to tear the O-ring. I use a tint smear of grease on it to help.

Still waiting on the parts to ship =/
Went out riding with a buddy of mine today. Nothing too crazy (I didn't wanna break 65) but I told him my situation and he said it might be a bad pump as well (starts surging when low on fuel). So I did some experimenting today and almost floored it around 35-40 and the bike pulled very strongly with no hesitation at all. I only brought it up to 50 or so, but that tells me that the pump is working correctly, right? Bike has no trouble starting, and pulls strong up until somewhere around highway speed. Is surging when low on fuel an exclusive problem with fuel pumps, or could a clogged filter also cause that?

Are you sure that you're not suffering from fuel tank negative pressure?

Never heard of it. Tried googling it but I don't think I have any air exiting the gas cap when I refill.

For time being I've made one
But I've ordered
Bs229 in 3.53mm and
Bs230
Hopefully one of these fit a treat and at £2.40 lots better than £34
