HI Folks,

i'm in a right pickle here. I'm trying to refit my tank and the bolt behind the headstock just does not line up with the hole in the frame...it was obviously in before I took it out but now it doesn't line up at all...have I missed something?!

Cheers

Common problem, maybe your tank has expanded. You can get the motomummy tank adjusters to solver your problem easily.

I have had a bit of a search but not come up with much of an answer. Is it possible that the tank can expand in the short space of time it takes to check my air filter? Plus I didn't know anything about tank expansion...

These adjusters you mention...how do these work?

I apologise for not looking deep enough. Plastic tanks and KTMs are totally new to me. I gather it's a regular nightmare then :-/ I'm also guessing I'm a bit stuck until i can source these adjusters or alternatively do the stud solution...

Oh arse!

Yep, i bought Aarons excellent tank bolt thingys, win anticipation of the airbox change, and Paul, ex Brackens, said tank would not have gone back on without them. Now any time the tank is moved its a piece of cake!

Thanks Aaron!

Right okay doke...Some suggest taking the rear fixings out which I might try as an initial fix but it sounds like new brackets are required. ..

Cheers folks

i use a tyre iron to lever my tank back into place. it takes a bit of effort, but you can get it lined up so the bolt goes back in without threading it.

Does anyone in the UK do these brackets? I might know someone who can make them...

Like the Colonel said, just slot yours if you are in a hurry or don't want to buy them. It gives you enough movement to get the tank lined up.

I even got my Crayons out and made a picture

What I do is hold the tank up off the frame with left hand and line bolt up with right hand using the T wrench.
Buy doing it this way you are not restricted in lining the bolt up with the frame.
You can actually angle the bolt to what ever you want.
Try it works great.

If I try and line it up with tank sitting on the frame there is no way it will line up.
So the remedy was as in my last post if you remove your tank again try it my way but be warned once you try it this way you will most likely slap your forehead and say DOH! Why didn't I think of this before
