Hey

My clutch is about to give up. When I pull it, it engages when the lever is almost at the handlebar. Not good .
The oil is also dark. I think it needs some new oil. I've looked through the repair manual, and it tells me to buy Motorex Clutch Oil 75. Okay. It comes in 100ml bottles.
How much do I need?

ok Im off to find a bottle..

I just took of the lid on the resovoir, and it's almost completely dry.. It looked like it was full but when I took out the rubber gasket, the resovoir looked empty. The rubber gasket made it look like it was full. Damn thats weird.

Then you've got a leak. The slave cylinder seal would be my guess.

As an alternate, you can use 5wt fork oil in liue of mineral oil...same stuff really.

no there's no spots underneath the bike.. But i will have to look at the slave cylinder seal. Probably take it apart.

Im not sure how long its been missing oil.. but im quite sure that the seal has been "sucked in" all the time Ive had the bike. which is for about 2 years now!

You can also go to a Citroën garage and get a bottle of LHM Plus (hydrolic mineral oil).

A little off topic.. But my old Nissan pick-up truck 5speed stopped engaging and I popped the hood to check clutch fluid reservoir and it was reading 'full'. Odd I thought...until a friend told me to OPEN the cap. Dirty brown gook coated the side of the plastic reservoir making it look 'full'. Problem was...........a leaking seal on the slave cylinder.

If you haven't got any seepage under the slave I'd just leave it alone until after you refill and bleed the system. The manual recommends that you reverse bleed if you can. If you can't then just do a regular bleed but also finish off by opening the valve at the master cylinder end to get any air out of that end.

Once bled then check for leakage after a few days of use.

Your observation about that stupid rubber condom inside the master cylinder is quite correct - I don't know why it is there as it just makes it look like there is plenty of fluid available when there is not. Perhaps other members might have some insight as to why it is there instead of a simple seal.

You can use baby oil aswell if you get stuck!

Works just aswell just breaks down a little quicker!

Personally id use fork oil or Magura blood as the Putoline stuff is shite and discolours real quick!
