First thing I would do is tilt the bike over and inspect -replace the oil filter. (get the dealer to do it)
There is a batch of faulty filters and it could be that. It messes with the oil pressure.
If not the filter it is possible that the cam chain tensioner is faulty, sounds like a noisy cam chain.

Comrade: The title says "when cold". Does that imply that when it warms up a little it doesn't sound like a bucket of bolts? If so then how long? Seconds, minutes? If this is the case it could certainly be lubrication rather than tension although the tensioner needs lubrication as well. Perhaps the tensioner is getting stuck but checking the lubrication is a good move.

you was spot on the oil filter it was well fl u ked , only had first service 500 miles ago , is was a faulty filter , went redline ktm today got my self oil and new filter , asked them there if there was faulty filters and got told yes , so got new one in and changed oil and defo better , ,IF KTM NO THAT THE FILTERS WERE FAULTY ,, I think ktm should realy ring round ktm duke buyers and get the faulty ones out and sorted before engines go bang , so if u had a service last year its worth getting filter for 12 quid and just swopping it out to make sure

Thanks for the info on faulty filters

ive got pics of the old one but not sure how to put on ere ,ill put it on facebook thow under superduke forum

These filters have been around for a while now and I guess it's impossible to track them all down as some might be on a shelve somewhere.

One would assume KTM informed the dealers of this and maybe have given them a serial number range or a manufacturing date to look for.
