Hey guys just got my bike back from this new dealer in Vegas.
I had the first service done and the akra map installed. The bike runs great.

As you know I fitted the motobox and some fmf apex pipes. My question.
Can I use leaded 105 octane gas in my 08 duke? I have a gas station around the corner that sells it from a pump.
I asked the dealer this.He said leaded was fine.
I question this I thought that leaded gas in a modern bike would be bad for the valve seals.Am I wrong?
It would be nice to run this gas once and a while or on track days if it works.

The gas we get now seem to be such shit. Each state has it's own type. I live in an area that I can be in 3 states in 5-20 minutes
I try to use the same station every time. It would be nice to use the quality gas.It not cheap but a tank once and a while I thought would be good on days I plan to go out on back roads triple digets.
Thanks for the input.
Vic

Ran a tank of Cam-2 through it today,,,,the only fuel I put in the belly of my beast,,,,,,,,,don't let that "Ethanol" crap sit for to long in your tank,,,,,,,,leaded fuel lubricates your valves,, quiets the thing down considerably,,,,try it,,, don't run it with a cat ,, it will cook it

Well so far sounds like it would be ok to run. I have no cat.
I removed the stock exhaust. That 60 lbs load of crap I believe had all the cat and o2 sensors in it.
My o2 sensors are turned off.I believe when you load the akra map it does this. Anyway my mech told me they were off.

This does make me happy since this gas station sells it right out of the ground.
I live by a river which is a big playground for race boats.I see them line up to fuel their 800 hp motors.
$8.00 a gallon not bad if I only use every now and then.
So you guys feel there will be no problem since I don't have a cat.Plus the lead should make it run cooler correct?
Our temps are triple digets now. Today it will be 118 degrees. I think I will drive my truck today that a/c feels good.
Thanks if anyone else thinks otherwise please let me know.I always thought lead was bad for modern motors that were made to use unleaded.I am glad to be wrong.
I can't wait to fill up with this gas my tank is almost empty.100 miles on the trip odo and the light is on.
I will let you know if I feel the differance.
Thanks Gents Vic

Leaded fuel will help lubricate valve stems/guides but its main purpose was to reduce detonation or "pinging" in high compression engines.
I`m amazed that you can still purchase such fuel , I would have a guess that the garage that sells leaded fuel for road use is leaving themselves open for a huge penality if caught.

..the fact that leaded fuel is a neurotoxin bothers no one then?

Ahh yes the good old USA, long live V8's. Yes to most of the above.

Unleaded:
It is kinder to valve seats. Yes it will wreck your cat. And at 105 octane I would run it, if you don't have a cat.

In Aus, the highest we can get is 98 octane unleaded at the pump. Or you can get 100 octane race fuel per 20litre drum for high cost.

Don't get me started on the global warming debate, as they tell you we're all doomed and scientists predict that oceans will rise, temps will rise and earths population is doomed and we will all starve to death in the next 100 years.

But,......... they can't acurately predict if it will rain next fooking Tuesday !!

Go figure?

The laws here are not a problem fror race gas. Many M/C stores sell V/P race gas for full off road racing that need the extra octane.
when you go to the races you can buy it buy the drum (25 gallon)
I live near the Colorado River and a huge lake.

We get all the boaters and jet ski's many of the boats have motors that are insane. They can do well over 100mph on the water.
This why we have several stations that sell this high octane fuel.
I am happy that I can use this gas.Since I have no cat it ought to make my duke run pretty good with all the mods.
I will fill up the next time I can ride don't know when that will be we are going thru some bad temps right now.
118-120 degrees way hot great if you are on the water.

Last night I got off work at 2:30 am it was 92 degrees. Aug. will be worse. I run a swamp cooler in my garage on a timer just so the temp don't melt everything. It can get 140+ in the garage.
I just have to survive july and aug. then it will be ok. I can't wait.
thanks again for the input Vic

One thing about "VP race gas" is that it is cut with E10 for areation,, has a "fizz" to it also,,, if you put it in your tank you must run it dry as the "fizz", "fizzles" out of the stuff,,,it only keeps in an "unopened state",,,,,,,,,,,
