Hey guys, I noticed some residue on my frame today and traced it back to the gas tank. Its leaking from one of the bolt holes on the underside of the tank. Called up the dealership to see if it would be covered b/c the bike was bought in june of last year and i've only put on about 1700 miles. The bike wasnt even ridden until january of this year because i was deployed and had it stored. Then i noticed the rear cyl looks like its leaking and the shit wont wipe or clean off. Its possible that its residue from the gas but im pissed. My frame is discolored now because of the leak. Anyone had similar issue?

It's not normal, but has happen few times around here.
- tank bolt must have been too tight ( in reality the Nylon tank with metal inserts doesn't like any force, I also made a leak in my tank without much effort )
- the cylinder leak has been solved with by giving some extra torque to the bolts.
Hopefully the oil leak it's easy
The tank it's a worst, but around the forum a few ways to trying to fix it.

From what I've heard KTM is pretty good about righting this situation. Don't let the dealer blow you off. Be firm and have them contact KTM directly. It's a known defect and should be covered outside of warranty.

The 4x main head bolts are meant to be 38nm. What do you think would be a safe over torque setting to maybe stop a weep?

My tank leaked..
The stealer did fix it under warrantee..
Took them 3 X to get it done...
I'd say the leak you're showing at the base gasket
is leaking gasoline from the tank..
Doesn't look to me like oil seapage...
and agree with Klink...
I surely wouldn't over torque the head bolts...
Where's Nerd..lol
He will tell ya in detail...

Mostly happens when people take the sides of the tank and the bottom spoiler at the same time. The bolts get mixed up and some are slightly longer and they end up in the tank and punch a hole in the plastic.
If you haven't touched that, the culprit is the mechanic who did the first service.
Normally when you do them up too tight it only looses the insert, doesn't make it leak.

I hate to say it but it probably was me, I've pulled the tank/spoilers a few times to install the M/H airbox. The dealership said that KTM is notorious for stiffing them on warrantee work so they're hesitant to take it on but the tank is pulled so it wouldn't be any shop labour or anything. I'll keep you guys updated. I'm really pissed that my orange frame looks like shit from where the gas leaked. I may try a wetsand and see if that helps.
