K1 = soft, K2 = medium, K3= hard, or along those lines. I run K1 front and K2 rear on track if possible.

You guys have more compound choice than we Aussies. But if you mainly do fast road stuff and some track days I'd go the 2 front and 3 for The rear.

If you are doing mostly regular old street riding, hard/fast street riding, and 1 or 2 track days in a season in that order than get the K3's. They also cost less than the K1 and 2's. However, if you do a bunch of hard/fast street riding, 3 or more track days a season, and only occasional regular old street riding in this order than get the K1 or 2's. My .02 cent.

Can't have your cake and eat it too !

If you want grip and safety forget the cost.....I have.

Life is always a compromise.

same here, i don't run metzelers, i run michelins but i choose a power for the rear and a power one (supersedes the old power race) for the front, always wear them out as a pair too which is good.

Good thing about the Sportsmarts is they will work everywhere from what i've read. Get on a trackday or long road run and it rains hard you'll still have grip. This is the main reason i went for them, but i only fitted them yesterday and its forecast for 5days of rain so might be a while before i get out there. 2k out tyres is accetable i think, given the grip avalible. Back in the days i ran 208RR Dunlops they were superb tyes but 12-1500 out a rear was about the average.

Might be worht going over the suspentuon settings if the bikes chewing them up bad. Since i set mine up properly the tyre will bobble a bit but over all runs pretty clean. There are loads of guys out there bumming about shreading tyres, you'll see it yourself on trackdays, but they're 17stone blobs and running the bike way to soft so all that wallowing loads up the tyre, builds up heat and bobbles the hell out them. Running damping to hard can do the same but in opposite end of spectrum.

I ran Metzlers and they were utter utter crap in the wet. Add to that up here in jockland alot of road runs are done in cold/cooler weather given the bollox summers we get and the metzlers had no feel and i had no confidence inthem when they weren't up to temp.

You'll get sportsmarts for £230 a pair on eBay, £7 postage, then fit them yourself or try and find a friendly garage that will change them cheap if you go in with loose wheels.

You gotta think how much youll get out a used set of scrubs. 1000miles??? Works out about the same price dude.

Just remember the K1/K2 compund are basically race rubber AND WILL NOT WARM UP anywhere near as fast as your Sportsmarts, even on a summer day dont expect to jump on your bike and chuck it hard into an island and come out the other side

Oh yer, and youl have very little grip in the wet and not much in the damp unless youve got plenty of temp in them!!!

Must say I wont be buying Racetecs again in a rush. Those Dunlop D211 NTECS were awesome, granted not tried them on the road but on track they were mega.

You lot really should try D211....Warm up fast, ok in the rain ...and on track when you drop the pressures grip better than all the other road legal track tyres (Soft front..Endurance Rear)

I had a medium rear D211 NTEC and there is still shit loads of life for track in it after 2 days of pounding, balled up like nothing I have used before
