Went for a ride on my 08SDR today and motor started cutting out before the rev limiter. It's did this before after a long day ride last year. But I have not ridden it for a while. Bike was in the shop for speed meter prloblem and bad gas tank. So this is the first time I've ridden it this year. Bike started normal. And ran fine for first part of ride. But started cutting out at 8k then 7k and by the end of the ride as low as 6k. I did install new heated grips. And I was using them. Do you think the heated grips could cause the voltage to drop low enough. I should say that the battery was replaced 6 month ago as well.

If you had a bad gas tank it might be the fuel filter that is dirty, this would explain the problem is only in high RPM.

Ya I thgought about that too but it happend with the old tank too. Maybe there is a filter in the fuel line or something.

I had an identical symptom from a coil pack not being fully seated, ran fine from idle to up to the various cut out points in the upper range. Power just goes away like a limiter, but runs fine otherwise.

Recently have the coils/ valve covers off?? Mine showed up some 400 miles afterward...

Does it completely stop or just miss?

Off the top of my head I'd check. Coil packs, earth lead to PCIII (if you have one) Rectifier regulator, fuel filters, pinched tank breather hose (does it suck air when you open tank?).
