Replaced my regulator/rectifier recently. Horrible dirty job - that unit sits in the worst place possible on a bike through 6 years of British winters and got coated with WD40/ACF50 every time I took the belly pan off. But it never got stripped or cleaned or anything so it was just packed with black crud and oil and stones and gravel from track crashes. Then I had to cut all the cable ties that secured the wiring behind the unit and couldn't really cable tie up the new one in the same way. To add insult to injury I haven't got a lift so I always end up lying on the workshop floor to work in this area.
But it felt good to have a new unit in place and know that the days of flat batteries were behind me! Course, I then fitted the Shorai and a heap load of other troubles ensued but that's another story!
Good luck.

yeah i tell ya, i just put it in the garage to get to the rectifier, and there is another dollop of oil coming from the wiring harness on the left lower side of the bike.
i just cannot seem to find the source. everytime i think i have found it and clean it up its back for the next oil change!
