I keep having a few drops of oil seepage showing up inside the chin piece. There are no leaks on the motor. Only this one electrical connector is wet. I have cleaned everything thoroughly with brake cleaner. It appears the oil is traveling thru the wire from the neutral/gear switch.

Mine was leaking out of the oil line that goes up that right side of engine . . At first i couldn't tell it was leaking up there ( the rubber oil line hose fits over the metal hose ) and i had it hose clamped even . Finally the other day it seemed to get worse so i double hose clamped it and it's all stopped. But when leaking the oil was running down some wiring into the battery box area.

I've had a problem with oil in the exact same place. Been difficult to trace it. I just tried replacing the crush washer in the oil tank drain plug that sits right above the starter relay there. Haven't run it around enough to see if it's made a difference.

I went over it again last night with a powerful flashlight. There is absolutely no sign of oil anywhere near this plug. Everything above it is dry. I'm going to put a couple of wraps of paper towel around the connector, then a couple of wraps of plastic bag material and zip tie both ends. After a test ride, if there is oil on the paper towel, sealed inside the plastic bag, then it's coming thru the wire.
I worked for VW years ago. Had to diagnose a Coolant leak, under the dash board of an 86 Golf. It turned out to be a coolant sensor wire. It had a boot around the connector that sealed it so well, the liquid actually pushed up thru the core of the wire strands and formed drops at the connector under the dash.
Looking at the wire that goes to the neutral/gear switch, it's potted into epoxy, then goes into the motor. That looks like it seals the wire pretty good on the outside.

How did you end up fixing the VW leak?

Mine was always greasy in that spot too, but there was never any oil on the floor.

The connectors that are getting wet on mine are on the other side and in front of the starter relay fro the line your talking about. On mine, only the connectors are showing signs of oil. All my oil lines are dry.
I have the connectors all wrapped and sealed up, plus a little one on the oil line as a test.
I'll ride it around town later tonight and see.

If you pulled the BBC apart and cleaned out all of the dilectric grease out you will have problems down the road. Corrosion will build up, increasing resistance and causing the connector shell to melt from excessive heat. Just a word of caution.

Blasted around for 25 minutes, no luck.
Not a single drop, it's clean.
I'll put the tell tails back in place and ride it some more.
Just wish it wasn't so firkin hot.

I think you'll find the oil is the dilectric grease getting hot and migrating around the wires inside the chin fairing....lots of turbulance in there when flying doen the road. My bike has done it from day one. They pack those things to keep them from corroding. It takes a couple thousand miles before you'll see oil migrating again.

No way, I've taken the chin off and cleaned oil out ten times now. Last time I had a two inch diameter puddle of oil.

Same oil leak on my SD.The oil sight tube had a split and oil went down the motor and right to the chin spoiler area.
