Wonder if someone can just conform something for me ? I did an oil and filter change at 3000 miles a couple of weeks back on my 08 SDR. The manual said it should take 2.5ltrs of fully synthetic. I put that amount in and couldn't even see it in the sight tube. I ended up putting in 3ltrs to get it within the max and min marks. I'm now wondering if I am reading the sight tube correct. Do I place the bike on level ground and check the oil level whilst it's on the side stand or do I hold the bike up so that it's vertical as if I am sitting on it.? I'm getting the engine up to temp and then switching off and allowing the oil to settle for a minute before checking.

Thanks in advance .

This is the same as mine (had it from new now with 6000 mls), i just keep puttting oil in it. I do wonder if the sight tube is incorrect and maybe shows too much oil in it, as to why it burns so much, not yet dared to run it on the 2.5 litres as stated in the manual and if was to run it that low there is no way of knowing if its still drinking the stuff. Havent heard of anyone running out of oil and there must be someone out there who has gone for more than 1000 mls without checking their oil!

I had the same problem with it using 100ml of oil every 200 miles so now i use ENI 10w60 and it seems a lot better done about 500 miles with no droppage.

Aftr my oil and filter change i put in 3.2 L of motorex Power Synt 4T SAE 10W/50. it's not cheap, but is does the job. I had Belray and had problems with the oil consumption too. Now it it uses a lot less.

The manual says 2,5 litres then add necessary amount with warm engine until max mark on sight tube. When you put in 2,5 litres it stays in oil tank, then when you fire it up engine sucks it into clutch, oil filter, transmission etc. I managed to add 2,5 litres plus 1,7 litres - total 3,7 litres and it was above max mark when hot. Today after 400km I sucked out about 150ml and it is exacltly on max mark on sight tube. So it takes about 3,5 litres actually, at least mine did it exactly in such amount.

I add 3lts then warm her up and add around another .5 ltrs to get the correct level.
