Did a forum search first, and didn't turn up any answers, so here goes...

In the past couple of months, it has only happened to me twice, and always near the end of a long, HOT (96 to 100F) day riding.
When I pull up to a stop, my oil pressure light blinks on and off, pulsing at engine RPM. Blip the throttle, and it goes away.

The first time, it happened, the throttle blip stopped it, and it didn't come back. That was about 6 weeks ago.
Yesterday, it happened again. Blip turned if off, but as RPM dropped, it started again. Second blip stopped it, and it stayed off.

Sort of like the oil hot, and thin, and the oil pressure drops just low enough, to pulse the light, with the RPM.
Power stroke pushes enough pressure, and exhaust stroke does not. On, off, on, off, on, off, etc.

Anyone want to venture an opinion, on this one?

Thanks,
Darrell

Check the wiring close to the pressure switch - on the SDR, at least, it can sit on a coolant hose clamp which rubs thru' the insulation, shorts the wiring and the warning light comes on.

As above, mine did exactly the same thing and it was a coolant hose rubbing.

After a 900 mile blast to Laguna Seca my 08 SD has started doing the exact same thing as DGs. In addition, there is a lot of chain slap coming from the cam chain tunnel while the oil light is illuminated. This is unfortunately low oil pressure and not a deffiective switch...hydraulic cam chain tensioners not tensioning due to low oil pressure....fook!

Now I have to determine why my oil pressure is low at idle after a long hard (and hot) blast through the twisty bits.

On my 08 SDR I have been having issues with my oil light flickering or just on for short periods. At idle it may come on and under throttle off. Clean oil,all filters, correct level,6500 miles on bike. It must have pressure or would have blown by now. Anybody seen this?

I replaced my oil sending unit on my 04 KTM 950 Adventure when it started to act up like yours. Mine started to leak oil too. It's common on the Adventures. Might be a time thing. I replaced mine with a "spin top" type of device made from a bottle cap, piece of coat hanger and a piece of string. I posted it up on this site this year.

Just in case you need to replace the switch.

If your oil and coolant are clean and there's no cam chain slap, it's most likely the short issue given the symptoms you describe.
