Just before Xmas I got taken out by a car, and when the bike was picked up by the mechanic the oil site tube shows no oil. Where has it gone to, as there were no oil leaks on the road or trailer???

There might be something in the lower part of the airbox. Did you start the bike yet or hold it to the left with more angle than the sidestand and did some oil appear in the tube?

Its most likely still in there.

SD has a dry sump engine, there is oil in the bottom of the engine but most is in another reservoir higher up within the engine hence why you have to get engine going to get accurate measurement when the oil flows, more so if its been down the road, the engine could have oil in all sorts of places.

Have you had it running?

No have not run it yet. Only just got back walking recently and the bike is at the shop. Thought it was going to be written off by the Insurance co but they have decided to fix it.

Just thought there might be some engine damage that they might not have been aware of. Maybe I'll get down to look at it this week.

Thanks

Pretty sure the manual says. Get the engine to running temp, keep the bike upright, turn off, wait 60seconds and then read the sight tube.

Looks like I don't have to worry about where the oil is as the bike has been written off by the insurer, so thats me out of the SuperDuke family.......at least for a while!!!!

Have you enquired about buying the bike from the insurance company?

You could put it on the road cheaper than them (providing its not written off), have a great track bike, or sell it on again as spares to people in Oz
