I'm racing the 2008 SDR and have just got an oil temp gauge as we are getting days over 40C
On the weekend on a 26C day I got 120C after 8 laps.
I ran Belray for the first time.
Does anyone know anything about oil operating temps as all the manufacturers I rang are getting back to me?

Hi mate. 120 C is fine for the oil.
Actually not that bad for race conditions, air cooled and turbocharged engines run much higher oil temps than that.
Up to 140c is fine with synthetic oil but it is best to avoid any higher or consider an oil cooler.

A better indication of trouble would be the oil pressure, if oil gets too hot the pressure drops which will result in all sorts of expensive repairs.
What too watch out for is sudden raise in temp, if you see that pull over as a bearing is about to give or so.
