I have a 2011 Supermoto R with an irritating habit. Initially only in plus 20C weather, the idle would go up to ~3000rpm. Turn the key off then on it may settle or I may have to repeat twice. The dealer asked me to do the 15 minute reset and everything was OK for a day or two until symptoms returned. KTM were contacted and they asked the dealer to replace the fuel filter and gaskets....all of the o-rings were intact, the sleeve filter was fine, but the little cylindrical filter was falling apart. The solution seemed to work for a day then the symptoms returned, this time when the weather was cooler in the am, but it worsened as the temps rose. KTM have advised the dealer to replace the throttle bodies and this will be done next week. Its not the varying idle issues that other people have had. Any thoughts?

Sad to say but however giving advise and diagnosing it has no idea. Example, let say the fuel filter was blocked what would happen? High idle, don't think so....
Anyway rant over.
Start with checking the big grey plug, water in there is a killer and can explain the symptoms. Clean out with contact spray and dry properly if you can with compressed air, if you don't have, use the missus hair dyer but don't cook anything. When dry apply dielectric grease to avoid moisture in there again.
If this doesn't fix it get the dealer to hook up his diagnostic equipment and check the sensors. My guess would be the temperature sensor is faulty or the connector oxydized.
Also check the hoses to the air pressure sensors, there is one per cylinder but if the bike runs ok besides the idle it is possibly not that.
It could still be something else, keep us informed, a lot of people here had similar issues and will pass their information on.
Hope this helps.

I'm no mechanic but their response didn't make sense to me. I'll look at the big grey plug and do what you advise. When they ran their diagnostics they said no faults came up and initially tried to indicate that adjusting free play in the throttle contributed to this, but I had done this after the fault came up and only took up some of the free play. I'll post up if that makes any improvement. Thank you

Pull BGC appart (PITA), dry it out with compressed air and apply liberal amount of dilectric grease to each contact...force the grease into the female contacts....you can't use too much.

Latest new on the high idle. After replacing all of the gas filters and gaskets, it ran great for a day or so and then started with the high idle. I felt I could live with it until the big 15000 Km service, but over the last 2 days, the idle has now gone up to between 4-5000 rpm and the bike informs me of the fact that when riding it, it accelerates up to that level. Switching on and off was no help this time. N.B. most of these occurrences happen when the ambient temperature is above 20C and more often or not there has been some stop/start riding; this makes me think that the temperature sensor is part of the equation. I headed back to the store today and they immediately looked at the bike and called KTM NA who advised them to disconnect the secondary throttle servos. The bike then seemed to run well for an hour (albeit with an FI light) then back to normal with the high idle (again over 20C with some stop start riding). A subtle difference was that the snowflake (low ambient temp) warning came on then went off a coouple of times, again this makes me think of a temperature sensor issue. The dealer did clean, dry and grease the BGP and checked the TPS. They have ordered a complete set of throttle bodies and plan to install them on Friday.
I still love the bike, and whether the dealer is doing the right thing, they are in contact quickly with KTM NA, treat my concerns promptly and always put the bike up with a tech quickly (Holeshot Motorsports Langley BC). I'll update more after the service on Friday

Check when the idle is high if you have any play in between the adjusting screw on the front throttle body on the left hand side and the adjusting plate. If not you have to turn that out.
Sorry I have no picture of this.
Also check the stepper motor on the front throttle body if it actually closes the butterflies when the engine heats up.
Keep us posted and we will find an answer.
Still think it's a sensor...
