Rear brake lever freezing up

Hey guys this has happened to me twice in 1 week now, luckily both times on the way home from some pretty fast twisty riding (cant imagine if it locked up mid sweeper).

So both times I had been out riding all morning. I use front brake mostly but will cover the rear brake when slowing down to lights etc and rev while down shifting. On the way home today (and last Sat) as I was accelerating and got a feeling like a handbrake had been locked on to my bike. Last week I had no idea what was going on. I tested the lever and it just felt locked on. I called for a lift which was delayed so after about 30 minutes checked the lever and it free'd itself up so figured a rock or something might have jammed it up.

Then on the freeway coming home from the coast today it happened at about 120k (light speed Dribble) and I instantly pulled to the side. Again the brake lever just felt locked and no movement then after waiting 20 minutes testing intermittently whalla it fixed itself again.

Not massively mechanical but can only assume it is overheating and the piston or something is freezing up. There is plenty of fluid in the cylinders and no apparent air bubbles or the like.

Any thoughts team

Check the pad material is not delaminating from the backing plate, if it is I would check the fronts are not doing the same

Will do Russ, do I need any special tools to get the pads out?

Cool, common sense I can handle.
