06 SD 3x,xxx miles

Fixed the clacking back torque limiter a while back by welding it together. A bit later installed the upgraded parts to do it properly.

Lately the starter has not been cranking the motor as it should, it spins but the engine only catches and cranks at about half speed. It's not like a dead battery clicking, the starter spins up but the engine makes a pitiful "pit uh pit uh pit uh" instead of "womp womp vroom". Perhaps the welded back torque limiter caused premature wear of an internal gear? Last time I rode it I just so happened to stall (first day back after 9k miles on a VFR) at a busy highway intersection and helplessly sat trying to get her going again. I'm very lucky to have not gotten plowed over. Then the rear tyre got a hole torn in it 10 miles from home, too big to repair.

I hope to pull it apart soon but you can only imagine how busy I am with two Super Dukes in the garage and the amount of overtime I must work to keep them running hehe.

This morning she just wouldn't catch. Thumbing the button merely spins the starter freely. Can't wait to have a look inside...

Take a look at your battery terminals. I thought mine were clean e-nuf on my 950 LC8 Adventure when I went off road to find a nice camp site. Luck had it some Dual Sport guys came by to give me a jump start. Took the battery out when I got home and cleaned it proper and no more problems yet.
