Hi All,
I have an '07 SD and today I went for a ride and had a crazy thing happen. After I got gas I pulled out an had to make a sharp right turn and my steering locked solid. I was luckily standing up so I had a lot of leverage but I came really close to eating shit in the station . I yanked the bars hard left and it came loose and I pulled over and took a look. So what it look like happened was when I turned full right the steering stabilizer rod stuck in the radiator protection screen. When I yank it hard left it broke the bracket. At least I think this is what happened. I had the tool kit under the seat so I was able to remove the whole thing and continue on.
Below are the pictures I took, the bracket is the one that bolts underneath on the triple clamp. Has anyone else seen this before? any idea what might have caused it? any input is appreciated.
Never mind, found the problem in an old thread, I obviously still had the old bracket: SD-R...Steering damperner recall.

Yep, happened to me and just replaced brackets and bolts at both ends - didn't know there was a recall on the bracket, though.

Hi Guys,
definitely check out those brackets. Now that I know it was the bracket that broke first and not just the rod getting caught (which I thought would have been really odd since there is a lot of clearance) a broken bracket can get really serious really quick. We were headed on our way to the twisties in the mountains so by chance it breaking in the gas station was shear luck.
I looked up the bracket kit on KTMtwins http://www.ktmtwins.com/ktm-990-super-d ... 1112005144 and it is $189.00 ouch! but it is supposed to be the updated "corrected" bracket. I wrote to WP with pictures to see what they say, but since the recall was so long ago I don't expect to hear back.

Cannot you buy just part #29 and #26 instead of whole set?

I can it's KTM!
Mine has been pushing into the rad for ages. TBH I don't even think it's damping anymore. Not sure if you can get these serviced though??

Don't know but hope so 'cos my adjuster knob has seized and turning it anti-clockwise unscrews the core from the tube.
