As its been stated that the tank a right pig to get back into position once lifted.

And im very tempted to by the brackets from motohooligan (but im too inpatient to wait)

is there not another way? cant the current bracket be adapted via milling the extra away from the current bolt fixings?

yes unfortunately i do squeak when i walk

I just filled the holes in the bracket so I could slide the tank back a few mm. This solved the problem.

Mate,

I have a set of Motohooligan modified hinges that enable the tank to move back a bit more to alleviate the problem of tank expansion. I bought them from him years ago during the time when the tank debate was raging but when I got around to fitting them I discovered that the bolts attaching the OE hinges to my tank would not unscrew. It was the old problem of the captured nut turning inside the plastic tank. I thought better to leave things alone as my tank expansion has never been as bad as others and I have mastered the techniques of levering it back into place when needs be.

Anyway, they are sitting in a tool box in my garage if you wanted to buy them.

Can't remember what they are worth? Knowing Motohooligan and his CNCd billet they were not cheap but I'm sure you could make me an offer.

Arte you in the UK?

I kind of mastered fitting the tank to my SDR, but if i would know something like this exists I would buy long time ago

I've found it's easier if you set the bolt near the triple clamps first. Then slide a bolt into each side on the rear and use something as a pry bar until the bolts slot in and you can thread them.

Much better than setting the back bolts and marring the fook out of your headstock trying to fit the front bolt.

ive just taken a file to my OEM brackets. still had to fight it a little but this time no need to pry tank.

just slipped in the big bolt next to head stock then placed the two locking pins at the back.

I must admit i found it loads easyier without the hydraulic lift in place.. ive not replaced it back on the bike.. has anyone else done this??

yeah, removing the strut is the first thing a lot of people do. It's more trouble than it's worth.
