Hi all,
I'm a new 990 Super Duke R (2007, stock except Ixil Xtrem exhausts without DB killers) owner and loving the bike. The first thing I tried to do was to make the bike more smooth, so I ordered a TuneECU cable and loaded all the available maps for Super Duke R from the official website. All the maps give me the same problem: the bike runs like absolute horse dung. The most annoying thing is that everytime I release the throttle you can feel the RPM's going back really fast, to around 1000 - 800, and the engine becomes very "silent" as if it's not even running. Then 9/10 times the engine stalls after which I have to start it again while still rolling. Also a lot of backfire in the pipes, even in sixth gear riding around 120 km/h. (way too rich fuelling?). Weird thing is that even the standard exhaust map gives these exact problems.
This is the procedure I go through after each map download:
- Download unmodified map to ECU
- Reset adoption
- Idle speed control test
- Ride around for at least 10 minutes
- Tried the 15 min idling but made no difference at all
Now I'm not sure if I should have backed up the original map .. and there doesn't seem to be a "reset" functionality from the Windows TuneECU software so I hope I am not screwed now since my knowledge of tuning with TuneECU is almost zero. Wouldn't mind fiddling around but I also use the bike for commuting so it would be nice to have a decent running bike soon again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Nope - download map, reset adaption, 15 min idle without touching throttle and only then ride - even then, both my SDRs take a little while of use before settling down, eg stable tickover.
Also, check your TPS voltage using TuneECU with 0.56-0.64V range given in KTM rebuild maual.
Not sure re best map for OE airbox but aftermarket pipes but suggest KTM Akra would be best suited - there are more here viewtopic.php?f=18&t=14763 though.

No.47 is right. Reset adaption is a PITA but necessary.
It took me 3 maps and the "reset process" to get it right after I got some Akra's. I had to take it out for a 30 min ride (idle revs back down to normal and much smoother).

You should have made a back up of your old map but why your bike is probably backfiring is because the original map would have had the sas turned off.
So go into tune ecu with the map your running and see if the sas has been turned off or not once you have turned it off do the 15min reset again and see if this fixes the problem.
To turn it off you have to right click on the sas box then untick the box.

A lot of backfire could be the carbon gasket gone in the riser from your headers to the mid-pipe ?

Cheers guys. Will try it out this weekend, and I believe the TPS voltage was above 0.7 so will have to check that out too.
And I actually really enjoy the backfire bangs, so that's not a problem.

I have loaded the Akra Smoothened map from the link No. 47 gave, and then did the reset adoption and then did the 15 min idle. While idling the engine went up and down from 1k to 2k rpm all the time and the engine was killed about 20 times when it came under the 1k rpm everytime.
Now this map and reset made the original problem a bit better, but it still remains that while riding the rpm goes low and then kills the engine. For example while approaching a traffic light, or standing still. Idling still goes bananas with the fluctuations in the lower rpm range. I tried riding for about 30 mins but the problem remains.
TPS voltage is 0.61V.
What is the next thing I can try to smoothen her out? It's all good to me as long as the frustrating stalling ends
