Has anyone ever tried to rebuild a WP damper which came on the 08 Superduke R? I recently did a track day and had the setting to full stiff by the 4th session. I could have used a few more clicks of stiffness, and wanted to see if I could perform any modifications to the damper. I know buying a different one would work best, but want to try an inexpensive way first. First I was thinking maybe a suspension shop can revalve it, then I thought I could just try a thicker oil in the damper. Anyone have one of these apart yet, and if so, does it need any specials seals that I must purchase? Any advice would be helpful...

Not that I know anything on this but isn't there some limit over which there isn't any real reason to make it more tight?

Basically the front wheel is supposed to have little life in it and the damper should only take the biggest wiggles out. Example Keith Code said that the damper is reasanoble in almost the lowest setting where it doesn't affect the bike handling but will take the biggest moves off. Other "damping" is done by being relaxed on the bike.

And if the bike is extremely unstable then perhaps the problem might be somewhere else, like in suspension?

check your suspension first. If its unstable at high speeds, I would look into dropping the forks first.

Stock WP stuff is just like stock Ohlins stuff (as found on Ducatis)--just run-of-the-mill. And both companies offer higher level stuff.

So has anyone actually tried replacing the oil in their WP damper yet? Gonna try it this weekend and want to know the specifics on taking it apart.

So I pull off the damper and the first thing I notice is that you need a 4 prong special wrench to unscrew the sides....then I read the label and it states do not disassemble due to the unit being gas charged..so I try to look for the air nipple under the knob and did not find one. So I ended up just putting it back in, and hope the get some feedback from the forum members. Is the damper indeed gas charged I will not touch it if is gas charged.

Not sure where you are located...because you didn't put it in your PROFILE....but if you're in the US call Race Tech. They should be able to get you sorted. If out of US, check with reputable suspension tuner.
