Gents, please forgive me if this has been covered already.
2008 sd990 with all the goodies. My problem is that I have multiple exhaust leaks. I have new graphite rings and have fitted the y pipe clamp to the header a little better after it continually was coming loose and smacking the coilover .
The main culprit is the slip ons. They are a typical setup with the double ended springs and a poor press fit into the y pipe. Yoshimura said they would re fit the y pipe to account for the poor tolerances, but I foresee this happening time and time again being that it is a v twin. Keep in mind this is merely a commuter bike, I don't race it.
So you superduke nerds... How does one go about mitigating this? V band clamps on the end of the slip ons? Wrap the slip ons onto the y pipe? For those of you that have these slip ons, you know there isn't much of a lip to work with. Or should I sell the set and find something else? Or single exhuast ?
I have thought about tigging the whole thing together but I haven't spent enough time verifying ill be able to install it or remove it after that.
Input greatly appreciated. - Ryan

I have the Mivv's and I never had any issues with the press fit and springs. I had to adjust the brackets a bit under the seat when new but that's got noyhing to do with this.
The pipes move quite a bit from hot to cold that is why the originals are fitted with the inserts pins in the seat frame, the Mivv's do to. Do the yoshis' have a similar system and does it move freely?
Assuming that the original can is one piece I guess you could tig it and be done with it.
You have the SAS disconnected? if not this heats the cans up (to clean the cat on the original) and might cause problems on aftermarket cans.
One thing you could try before taking the welder out is paste, some is better than others so no guaranty here.

Thanks for the response man. I've got the bike pulled apart right now and will post pictures later today. And Yes, I've got the whole MH kit, sas block off and all. I didn't even think to look at the sub frame mounts for the cans. They really don't seem to ever get very hot , compared to some titanium or stainless exhaust systems I've had in the past

The problem is the cans are a loose fit on the y pipe , even with the retainer springs installed.
