Little pilot light in euro headlight

Hey Guys,

I am moving steadily forward on the rebuild of my crashed superduke 990. I wired up the new headlight last night and i have a question. I got a better deal on the euro head light so i picked it up and had to splice it into the old headlight loom wire as it came with a different molex plug on the end. I did some internet research and I'm pretty sure i wired it correctly. light on top is high beam light on bottom is low beam but stays on when high beam is on. Little pilot light is on when low beam is on but goes out when high beam is on. My question is what is the purpose of that little pilot light? seams kind of useless!

I would guess that the little (5W?) light is used as a parking light and possibly as a fail-safe in case the low beam bulb blows, but I'd expect its primary function to be as the parking light - not sure if US-spec bikes have this, but turning the key anti-clockwise past the steering lock position will leave this front light and the tail light illuminated if parking the bike somewhere dark at night (sorry if you knew this already but I'm in the pub and feeling mildly oiled and quite verbose)

Thanks for the answer that was my suspicion but I was not sure...And I wish I was in the Pub...I don't know where you are but its 9:30 on a Friday morning here and I'm stuck in my office at work!!

I too am approaching the decade ownership point. My bike is an '07, I think November was when I bought it so in reality it's approaching 9 years. Met some great people on this site, many from the States who I have never met in person but i have got to know in spirit.

Jeez. If you leave this forum it's one less crucial personality I will miss a lot. Jehad Joe was a loss to me once but you are irreplaceable.
