Need to pull this cartridge from a KYB shock apart, any ideas?

Am i right to assume this is just a screw cap?
If so you can slide a piece of heavy wall tube over the outside diameter and drill some well placed holes into the side where properly placed pins can drive the machined edges of the cap OR you could cut slots into the end of a piece of pipe to mate with the drive tangs on the alloy nut and use a piece of rod inserted from the side through the pipe to rotate the pipe OR do the same to the correct size socket and drill a hole in it to clear the shaft diameter, then just use the 3/4 inch drive to undo it.
Cheap and nasty but might get you out of trouble. I would be machining up a mating part but not everyone has that option available.
