I found a pair of unknown Triumph saddlebags locally on Craigslist for $150. A friend of mine has a machine shop and is an expert welder. I came up with the idea, he did the sticking of various metal bits and produced the basic framework. These shots are from fairly early in the development. I have since beefed up the mounting points based on the Ventura rack mount design. The Ventura rack proved to be useless. It's appearance on the bike far outweighed the benefit and I have pillaged various bits off for the saddlebags.
Today I just finished modding the brackets so they attach to the subframe like the Ventura rack for lateral stability. The new aftermarket cans intruded on the original crossbar bracket that attached up through the trunk. The load still remains on the passenger peg brackets. Everything is relatively simple to remove, 4 bolts hold each box to the bracket while 2 bolts hold each bracket to the bike.
Pics are crappy but I'll try and get more of the new set up next week. Prepping for the track this weekend and the day after I get back the SD and I are embarking on a 1000 mile round trip to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to demo some RC8R's. Monday night I'll be peeling the tape off the lights and reattaching the saddlebags and tankbag.
The passenger peg bracket...

The bag slides right on and will be secured with 2 bolts mounted to the truss supports with rubber washers on the inside for waterproofing. These Triumph bags have metal brackets within the channels which should provide additional strength.
