Ok guys i am just trying to get some direction here. I was really interested in doing the R tial conversion to the SD but it is very hard to get and from what I have heard they are no longer producing the kits. Also that kit here in the US is a bit expensive. The only other option I have found to conver to a single seat and change the tail is by using 2005 GSXR1000 tail and I am guessing a custom seat. HM Racing across the pond did it on their race bike and supposedly sold kits for it but I cant find them anywhere either. I was hoping someone on here has tried this or knows how hard it is to make it fit.
Also can the SDR seat or the GSXR seat be used with that tail. Any other ideas for a tail conversion are welcome. I will get some pictures up to show the tail. Thanks

Wow, that looks really good!
I too have waited a long time to make the single seat conversion because any second hand units rarely come up. The Gixxer tail end is one of the best looking seats at the moment, IMO, and your posted pic just proves it. Why not try contacting hM direct and asking them. All dealing I've had with them, (dyno and suspension set up), have always been really positive, they are a really helpful and approachable load of guys. Bet they would tell you everything you want to know.

What I know myself, having just done the KTM conversion kit is that the bits you get to add to the standard SD subframe are a front bracket that bolts onto the front of the frame, just behind the tank, and another one at the back that bolts above the standard seat fixing point into which the seat unit clips via a bolt on plate with a steel pin. This is activated with a lever and cable that you pull to release the whole seat unit. If you got hold of a GSX seat then all you would really need to do is fiberglass on the necessary fix points to allow the steel pin, the two side brackets that attach to the passenger footrest mounts, (this is not how the picture looks though), and any points where you need to put some rubber pads where the seat unit interfaces with the frame. You'd have to remount the release lever in an accessible position as well because the SDR lever is only accessible when you take off the sepatate seat pad. There are a number of bits you'd need to order through KTM but all these have part numbers which are detailed in the kit, (I have them all). It's definitely doable, the only issue is if the Suzuki seat did not fit over all the stuff in the undertray - but your picture seems to prove that it does.
Good luck with the project.

Seat looks like race foam to me just stuck on top of the fibreglass shell.
Doesn't look bad though but I still prefer the R tail myself.
I think they never did sell the conversion kit in America, I know one or two of the guys have bought them overseas, possibly from Bikers Jersey.

HM don't do kits but they are happy to do the job for you if you want.
Kev at Projex fitted my R1 (2003) tail to mine simply because that's what I had hanging around. Simple job - its just i don't have a workshop right now.
Dremmel or somesuch to cut the underside to fit the cans, fit a plate across the subframe to take the seat unit bolts and the rest is just minor fitting.
Simples.
As soon as i pick the bike up from Kev's I'll post a couple of pics - can't right now as I don't have any static shots although I know some people took some snaps at the crashfest.

Thanks everyone for the responses. My major concerns are finding a place for the under tray and which seat to try and fit on there. It should cost a bit less than doing the R conversion since I can get the GSXR tail for $150 + paint. I would love to buy a nice Corbin GSXR seat or the SDR Corbin seat which I think is around $300. I am going to have to bit the bullet and find a way to make one of them fit. Looks like ill have to reach out to HM and get some ideas.
Side note that Bellypan is off an SV650 and that looks pretty good too. Man that SD is a real Frankenstein.
There are a few more pics on their site but I cant figure out how to get them over here. You can see it from the back in one of them.

Your wish is my command, Sir:
Best i can do for the moment.
As you can see I have dispensed with the undertray altogether and just moved all the junk inboard to below the seat itself.

That said, that top fairing will make a positive difference down the straights.
