Just did my first oil change... followed all instructions.. refilling now, I estimate i have put about 2.9 l in but it's not showing on the indicator tube? Could it be blocked? Bought bike second hand and did oil change because there was nothing showing before and I thought it was a little low???

You don't have a pool of oil on the ground do you?
With 2.9L in it should register, the bike holds 3L. Take it around the block a few times.

I'm sure if you lean the bike on the side stand the oil will show. Once you start the bike its going to drop a lot again. let ti warm up properly to 4 bars and then top up as required.

Seems fine now, When the bike is on the stand there is oil.. when i put the bike upright it drops a bit... Would the bike show no oil if the ball valve moved? or what would be the symphtoms? How can I check it?

I didn't think over filling was such a issue on the LC8 as it's a dry sump? I can understand it for sure on a wet sumped bike but as the majority of oil is in the oil tank I didn't think it would be such a big issue.

To de honest.. took a chance and rode it today.. went like a bomb... shows it's at max while on the side stand and drops to about 1 quarter way up btw max and min when bike is upright... Think its fine.. weird, wonder if the oil bottle was filled wrong..

If it was overfilled I would think that any excess would end up being pumped out the tank breather, into the airbox.

JUST DID MY FIRST OIL CHANGE ,NOW OUT OF WARRANTY ETC. filling her up it took 3.1 litres to get to the stage of 3/4 full on sight tube , bike warmed up etc and held upright with no stand etc. at first i had it on a rear paddock stand and it read lower , then dropped it down off the stand and it made quite a difference, rode it hard/ fast level is slightly higher due to expansion, book said fill up 2.5 litres and then top up but you wouldnt think you would top up to 3.1. just discovered in back of handbook in spec list it states oil capacity with new filter change is 3.0 litres !! so im not far off, this is all a bit hit and miss, but there you go, still worth it

I also did my first oil change on the SD as soon as I brought it home, (second hand as well)
and as it is stated on the manual, it is 3L in order to leave the level right in the middle...
The thing is that you need to have some faith, as soon as you pour in 3L (2,5 first, turn on, and 0,5 later) the level will be below the min mark, at this point, wash your hands off from all that Motorex (hard to get rid of) oil, and take the bike for a spin. Be generous with the throttle...gas station people need to make a living as well.
After spinning the wheel in turns and making a few wheelies, turn the bike off, let it rest 1min and you'll see how the level reaches the medium.

BTW
KTM dealer told me that their mechanics use 3.5 L...
No wonder there are so many issues!!
Although filling it up a bit over the max won't do the engine much harm as it is a dry sump engine...
